Bregman’s clutch 3-RBI double in the 8th helps power the Astros to victory over the Athletics 6-3, as they secured the series win!

The Astros struck like lightning in the first inning against A’s starter Austin Pruitt. Jose Altuve led off with a single and scored on Jeremy Peña’s seventh home run. The A’s got one back in the second inning off Astros starter Framber Valdez on a Ramon Laureano double, a stolen base, and an Aledmys Diaz sac fly.

Framber worked his his way out of deep trouble in the fifth inning after a leadoff double by Shea Langleiers, who was bunted to third by Tony Kemp. Valdez then walked the bases loaded but got Seth Brown to ground out to first on a play that Jose Abreu made interesting with a bobble that made the play a photo-finish.

The Astros were held without further scoring until the eighth inning when Jose Altuve led off with a double followed by a Peña double that failed to score Altuve. After an intentional walk to Alvarez, Alex Bregman hit a three run double, and after a Kyle Tucker groundout, reached home on a Jose Abreu sac fly.

Against a weak-hitting A’s team, Astros starter Framber Valdez managed to go six innings, allowing only one run on four hits, three walks, and five strikeouts.

He was followed by Phil Maton, who threw a perfect inning, but Bryan Abreu left the bases loaded in the eighth with two outs for Hector Neris, who promptly allowed a two-run single to Shea Langeliers, making the score 6-3. Ryan Pressly polished off the A’s in the scoreless ninth for his second save in two nights and his 10th of the year.

Yordan Alvarez and the Astros SLAM the Brewers in the series opener 12-2, extending their winning streak to 8 games!

On any other night, this game might have been headlined by the stellar pitching performance of Cristian Javier, who allowed only one run in six innings, that on a Rowdy Tellez homer in the second. Javier allowed four hits and one walk with five Ks to keep his season WHIP under one. All his outs but one were by strikeout or fly ball.

Javier’s line: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 5 K, 1 BB

Five home runs, including a Julks Jack, a Maldonado Mash, two Yordan Dingers, (including one grand slammer), and even a 4-bag Dubon Bomb, his only one this year, buried the Brewers.

Corey Julks started the fireworks with his Jack in the second inning. followed two at-bats later by #9 in the order Martin Maldonado. In the fifth inning, Mauricio Dubon hit his first homer of the season, and two batters later, Yordan Alvarez hit his first of the night, making the score 5-1. The Astros added five more runs in the sixth inning on an Alex Bregman RBI single and the Alvarez grand slam, his 12th homer of the season. The Astros added two more superfluous runs in the eighth inning on a Julks bases-loaded double.

Javier was followed one inning each by Seth Martinez, lefty Parker Mushinski (just placed on the roster today), and Ryne Stanek. Martinez allowed the only other Brewer run.

Other tidbits: Meyers had a crazy catch and also hit a triple, had an RBI, and scored a run. Julks and Alvarez each had three hits, and Alex Bregman and Jose Abreu each had two. The Astros had 15 hits total.

GAME 46 LINEUP! This is how the Astros will lineup in the finale going for the sweep against the A’s.

You really have to question how much longer Dusty is going to start Abreu at cleanup. He’s a liability right now and needs to be moved down immediately.

The Stache, J.P. France, shoved it tonight in Chicago, as the Houston Astros open the weekend series with a 5-1 over the White Sox.

The teams waited out more than a two-hour rain delay at the start. The White Sox honored Abreu with a pregame video tribute, and he responded by popping out of the dugout and pumping his fist as the crowd cheered before jogging toward the clubhouse. It ended up being the Astros first “After Dark” game of the year too.

France (1-0) was terrific again after throwing five scoreless innings against Seattle last week in his major league debut. The 28-year-old right-hander went 6 2/3 innings in this one, allowing just one run and one walk. Chicago’s Luis Robert hit a solo homer in the second, but after that France did not let that phase him and had an excellent night.

Kyle Tucker walked and scored in the fourth. He also got Houston’s first hit when he chased Chicago starter Michael Kopech (1-4) with an RBI double in the fifth, making it 2-1. The Astros scored two more in the sixth on back-to-back RBI doubles by Martín Maldonado and Mauricio Dubón against Gregory Santos. Yordan Alvarez homered in his second straight game when he led off the ninth with a long drive to right.

In case you missed it, Astros hitting coach Troy Snitker was ejected by plate umpire Mark Wegner in the top of the first inning. This explains to those of us watching as to what Kopech and the umpire were pointing at.
