Creating career pathways for the next generation through paid internships is key to our mission.

As a nonprofit, we depend on the support of readers and supporters like you to keep this critical work going. We have already raised $25,000, thanks to matching funds. Our goal is to raise an additional $50,000 for our internship program to be fully funded this year.

Will you help us meet our goal and support the next generation of journalists? 🤝

Here's our story about growing, evolving and modernizing to serve the greater Bay Area with strong, local journalism. A tech boost from Microsoft helped us transition to become a stronger organization.

Katherine Ann “Kat” Rowlands was an eager summer intern for Bay City News Service 35 years ago when, even as a cub reporter shadowing veteran journalists, she remembers thinking, “I bet I could run this place.”

For the past 40 years, BCN’s 24/7 regional wire service has helped power the Bay Area’s local news ecosystem.

Our reports are carried by nearly 100 news organizations, including TV and radio stations, newspapers and websites, informing millions of residents across our nine-county region.

The work we do is important — and expensive. But you can help by supporting our nonprofit affiliate, which fills in the gaps with community reporting.

Now through Dec. 31, NewsMatch will double donations to the Bay City News Foundation our nonprofit affiliate. Any individual gift up to $1,000 is eligible.

Great news! The Hogan-Newton Fund at the Miami Foundation has announced its first grant of $5,000 to Bay City News Foundation to “turbocharge” Bay City News Service's internship program.

BCN, which for 40 years has provided around-the-clock news coverage to most of the San Francisco Bay Area’s news outlets, routinely hires young journalists eager to get reporting and writing experience.

Under new ownership by Katherine Ann Rowlands, BCN is expanding its educational mission by developing a more formal program for its paid interns.

The $5,000 grant provides funds for mentoring as well as travel, research and other money to help interns do substantive journalistic projects that will set their portfolios apart.

Here at the Bay City News Foundation, we're hoping to match the Hogan-Newton Fund grant to further improve and expand BCN's program.

If you'd like to help, you can make a donation at http://bit.ly/donateBCNF. During November and December, all donations up to $1,000 will be matched!

We’re excited to share that starting today Bay City News Foundation, the nonprofit affiliate of BCN, is participating in — a national matching-gift campaign that drives donations to nonprofit newsrooms (like us!) around the country. And readers like you can play a key role in keeping our newsroom strong.

From now through Dec. 31st, NewsMatch will match every new monthly donation 12x, and double any one-time donation up to $1,000.

For a nonprofit like us, this is a big deal and will help us deliver the kind of innovative journalism you’ve come to expect, every day.

This news can’t wait. So why would you?
