Listening deeply is a gift we all can tap into where insight, perspective and wisdom can find us.
Returned from the other side of the country in NC & VA, all the way to Georgia and back with various truckloads and SUVs of supplies. Saw a LOT of things, grieved a lot more. Can't speak about some things, a few are just a horror show and others just don't fit with a social media algo, so all I should say here is I am glad to be on the other side. Also glad I got a chance to see my family after too many years apart, these last 5 years have been so brutal. The whole lot of it makes me want to cry for many of us.
There will be an opportunity to create something beautiful from all of this and the seeds were planted for a brighter and more beautiful future. If you are also interested in those more beautiful futures and something interesting is sparking for you, please feel free to reach out. Sometimes the best thing to do is to trust intuition, like the intuition that told me to wait a week on leaving for my trip to Asheville so that instead of being in the middle of the storm, I could come and help people recover.
I shot video with a new Insta360 from the mountain areas outside Asheville so we can speed up the recovery and rebuilding process for one community. Sometimes the best thing I can do is use my skills in cooking, crisis care, media and tech to help people get one step further down their path. We plan to use these tools + others to help site plan & expedite new permits to connect people to new affordable housing options in the coming months. New kit homes are coming, cottages & tiny homes for the immediate future while larger structures will require additional funding. This is the challenge faced by many communities now as hundreds if not thousands of homes are now gone. We will need new factories in the region for new homes along with greater investment in modulars and biogenic building materials that can be created locally, quickly.
If you are an XR/360 design pro for BIM and site planning, design or construction pls get in touch. I'd like to confirm my workflow choices before asking a tapped-out team to buy software from expensive companies like Autodesk - we're looking at Autodesk Construction Cloud to help expedite rebuilding and I'd like to find a mentor who can help me with these site planning challenges so our architects, PM and land-based team can all be on the same page with county/state offices. I'm combing through the 360 footage this week to start developing site planning documents.
If you are in the Asheville area and looking for a place to stay (temp or permanent) I can recommend folks who are renting spaces and may have additional work opportunities. There will be an ongoing need for people who support grief and loss, mental health and other types of human body care from nurses to massage and to be honest, foot & basic human care for those who have been living through muddy hikes without showers for over a week. We saw some people surviving through horrific conditions and some humans are breaking down in the process.
