In every issue of Illustoria, we publish writing from young authors from around the world. 🌎️

In our current Issue 26: BLUE, we asked students from the International Alliance of Youth Writing to submit stories about why the sky became blue.

After reviewing a huge pile of fantastic writing, we selected this imaginative story by 8-year-old Asra from San Francisco's 826Valencia, their Tenderloin location! 📺️☁️

Their story "50,000 Years", gloriously illustrated by our long-time contributor Charlotte Ager.

In Issue 26: Blue, we asked poet Chris Ferreiras and illustrator Alex Aldrich Barrett, "How does blue FEEL?" 🌀🌊🐟

The result is a breathtaking poem with ethereal artwork that will make you feel a swirl of emotion. Both artists recently shared a loving behind-the-scenes commentary about the process:

"There was a lot of experimentation with this one -- lots of splashing paint down on the paper and seeing what happened. Sunspots, raindrops, rising tides, rising sun, cells splitting, all started emerging from the process."
— Alex Aldrich Barrett

"Poetry to me is such a visual process, and often my words come from meditation, disappearing into an intention and feeling, and taking note of scenes from my memory and imagination. Sometimes, if I’m lucky, I have the words to guide my reader to the same mirador that inspired me, but this time I’ve been blessed with a view into an even greater expanse than I could’ve written alone."
— Chris Ferreiras
