ICYMI: Distilled Magazine: Issue 5 - "Too Good to be True"

The lines between what is real and what is unreal have blurred, or so it seems lately. Technology such as smartphones and apps have put the world at our fingertips. Behavioral economists are figuring out how to make us live and work together, and careful diplomacy ensures we will never go to war again. It doesn't matter whether you aspire to make art, cure hunger, or even stall climate change. What was previously impossible is now possible.

And now, Distilled is back! It feels almost too good to be true.

Maybe it is? That will be the theme of our comeback issue: "Too Good to be True". Are we really marching towards Utopia, or are we just going nowhere faster? We would love to hear your thoughts.

Distilled Magazine seeks out submissions that tell a story, starting from any topic you find interesting, and leading us to a broader meditation on the subject at hand. We look forward to reading your submissions, and as always, encourage you to stand your ground and defend it. Wisely.

Submit pitches or drafts to [email protected] by September 15th.

Well, science proves it: the wealthy are jerks.

Being wealthy may cause someone to become more narcissistic and unethical. How does wealthy entitlement affect possible wealth redistribution?

There are no simple solutions, as Maciek Hacaga states: 'It is very popular these days today to argue for energy efficiency, which should help us to combat climate change and increase our energy independence. This kind of thinking is delusive.' http://distilledmagazine.com/energy-and-resource-constraints/

Technology isn't going to solve our problems with energy and resource constraints. Innovation just leads to more consumption.

There is a demise of love and friendship in public life. Modern governance should move beyond the limits of law to again embrace the power of love.

'Finally, America needs to take ownership of its role in world security affairs through more decisive action and smarter deployment of its military personnel. For too long, the U.S. stalled on the topic of the Syrian conflict'. Rob Ivory sets the tone in Issue 4 of Distilled magazine http://distilledmagazine.com/new-kind-american-leadership/

Roadmap to a New Kind of American Leadership: Even in the post-9/11 world, the U.S. needs to stick to it's founding principles.
