Walked by this while walking my puppy last night in downtown SF 🤘😂and honestly, how anyone could think that a four page summary written by an attorney general who was handpicked by Trump after his first AG recused himself. Sessions, despite his many flaws, still had the sense to know it was a clear conflict of interest that would betray any appearance of institutional impartiality if he, who was part of the very campaign under investigation, were in control of investigation! Impartiality is so crucial for the public to be able to trust that our democratic institutions work based on their guidelines and laws and not based on the politics or personal opinions of the people who are temporarily in power! We are a COUNTRY OF LAWS, NOT A COUNTRY OF MEN—at least I hope this is still true! I digress to my point: there is no way an attorney general—whom was handpicked by Trump after the investigation had started and specifically for his views on the Mueller investigation and on other legal issues (like the legality of indicting a sitting president)—is obviously NOT IMPARTIAL JUDGE and should not be the one to decide what parts of the Mueller report are made public. You know that Trump’s big thing is loyalty and that AG Barr would not have been picked for this position unless he has sworn allegiance to Trump. This needs to be in the hands of people who have sworn allegiance to the American people, our Constitutional values, and legal precedents; not sworn allegiance to one President or party! Period! Democrat or Republican should not matter; this should not be a partisan issue! Both sides should want the report made public to back up their beliefs, which is why the House voted 420 to 0 in favor of releasing the report (so rare to have UNANIMOUS agreement across the political spectrum)! While I understand there is sensitive information in the report, that is why we have Congress who are vetted and cleared to protect certain information, so at the very least Congress should be entitled to look at the FULL REPORT with no redactions, to make sure they aren’t just redacting anything they want! it’s just the right thing to do!

The fact that people love and sleep with someone of the same s*x is not the biggest problem here! The REAL moral issue is people who think it’s okay to hate, discriminate, beat, lock up, kick out, disown, and even murder LGBT individuals!

There are a total of 74 countries where same-s*x activity by consenting adults is a criminal offense. 13 of which it is a crime punishable by death. 17 of which allow corrective r**e and forced marriage of le***an women. And 40 of which have laws that allow people to get a lower sentence on murder if their victim was an LGBT person, including in more than half of the US states.

Only five countries in the world – Bolivia, Ecuador, Fiji, Malta and the UK– guarantee equality for citizens on the basis of s*xual orientation as well as gender identity.

In America, LGB youth are almost five times as likely to have attempted su***de compared to heteros*xual youth.

While heteros*xual youth homelessness is around 5%, an astonishing 40% of LGBT youth are homeless, largely due to families kicking teens out upon coming out— this works out to about 400,000 LGBT minors per year being put on the streets and often forced into prostitution to survive!

Homeless LGBT youth are almost twice as likely to be s*xually assaulted then their straight counterparts.

A hate crime against an LGBT person is committed every hour of everyday in America, on average. Resulting in 1 out of 6 US hate crimes being towards LGBT!

It was only a few decades ago in the US when women were legally thought of as somebody’s property in most states, rather than somebodies in themselves. Even today, these deeply engrained notions still linger in how girls are too often implicitly taught to be caretakers of others, instead of being taught to take good care of themselves. Women are taught NOT to prioritize their own goals and are more likely to be asked to ignore their individual needs to make others comfortable and happy. If a woman pays attention to her own goals, this is often seen as bitchy or rude behavior. I experience this frequently: when I put limits on my time or affection in order to prioritize myself and my studies, I am often met with guilt trips and called things like selfish or mean; but when men prioritize themselves, they are called dedicated and ambitious! That women are expected to care for, coddle, entertain and please everyone else around them, and sacrifice their own self development and identity in the process, holds back so many remarkable women. I’d rather join the ranks of women who actualized their potential and became somebodies, rather than become somebody else’s— and if this makes me a “selfish bitch” then so be it! I’ll be a selfish bitch who has accomplished what she wants. But this gets to my main point: why do we have to look at every ambitious, accomplished woman as a bitch? Think “Devils wears Prada”—she was only portrayed as the “evil boss” because she was a woman; a man playing that same role would just be the norm, as there is nothing extraordinary about an assertive and demanding male CEO! 🤔

Feminine le***an problem: Guys are constantly assuming you are straight. When you tell them otherwise they look at you and say, “You don’t look like a le***an.” Oh, excuse me. I was unaware that to be a le***an I had to meet a straight man’s expectation of what a le***an should look like? It’s funny because your s*xuality has nothing to do with your gender and how feminine you decide to dress. That a woman conforms to the stereotypical feminine gender norms does not mean that she must like men, and on the other hand, just because a woman doesn’t want to conform to the typical gender traits for women doesn’t make her a le***an or a d**e! Some women are feminine, and some women are not, someone’s gender presentation and their adhering to certain roles of femininity has absolutely NOTHING to do with a woman’s s*xual orientation!

Straight men absolutely understand the need for when they are hit on by gay or trans individuals, yet in my experience this understanding does not apply the other way around, when straight men are hitting on women, even gay women! If I say I only like women, they respond that I’m “too pretty to be gay” or haven’t had the right guy, or basically that I’d be able to turn straight if I just got fu**ed “by the real thing”! The enormity of this double standard for consent is crazy: in 47 states, people can get reduced sentences for the assault and even killing of LGBT people by using what’s known as the “gay panic” defense! It offends some people so much (mostly men) to have an LGBT person hit on them, that they feel like violence is the appropriate response to being hit on by an LGBT individual! Can you imagine if women had the same option to get reduced sentences for violence against straight men who had hit on, groped, or harassed us without our consent? But that wouldn’t be accepted, as we live in a misogynist and heteronormative society, which makes it seem like a normal burden for women (straight and gay) to deal with unwanted advances from men, even very adamant and forceful advances, yet at the same time makes it seem like a justified and normal response for men to be so repulsed by an LGBT person coming onto them as to black out into a “gay panic” which in almost every single state can be used as a justification for the assault and killings of LGBT individuals, often times resulting in the jury giving lighter sentences for hate crimes committed against LGBT people by most straight men. My question is: what makes these men so unsure of their s*xuality as to feel the need to prove their masculinity and straightness by beating up or even murdering LGBT individuals who come on to them without their explicit consent? And secondly, if men understand the need for consent so much in the context of gay guys hitting on them, then why does this understanding disappear when they hit on women who clearly do not want their advances?
