The first issue of FIELD included translations of three Tomas Transtromer poems by Robert Bly, and throughout virtually the whole history of the magazine Bly continued to contribute poems, essays, and translations. Bly was a crucial figure in the development of American poetry and translation throughout the second half of the 20th century and the beginning of the 21st, and FIELD was grateful for his support and generosity. He died yesterday at the age of 94. RIP.

This great review of Will Schutt's translation of Edoardo Sanguineti's MY LIFE, I LAPPED IT UP has just appeared on Reading in Translation. "In Schutt, Sanguineti already has met his best American translator."

By Judith Vollmer All good poems wrestle with acute contradictions. They sweat and sing the facts and mysteries of living, while simultaneously revealing the scaffoldings and artistic inten…

Oberlin College Press is sad to announce the death of Dennis Schmitz last week. His ABOUT NIGHT (1993) was the first book in the FIELD Poetry Series, followed by ANIMISM in 2014, and he was among the poets most often published in FIELD, beginning with the very first issue. It was a pleasure and a privilege to publish his work, and he will be much missed.

There is a radiant wisdom that has always infused the poetry of Dennis Schmitz, a remarkable light that is able to reflect precisely off even the most corrupted surfaces of our daily world. Since reading his very first collection, the astonishing We Weep for Our Strangeness, I have always thought of...

Whenever I see a poem by Angie Estes I prepare myself for serious delight. Her timing and her ever-uninhibited instinct for poetic shape are the triumphs of a first-rate musical intelligence. Angie Estes is Fred Astaire and Ginger too: backwards in high heels, forward on rollerskates, never have cla...
