People always ask me, “why do you keep the trash you pick up?”
Well... this is why. 🧑🎨
Ever since I started doing cleanups, I’ve held onto the pieces that speak to me and that I could use for art projects. I keep bottle caps, toothbrushes, toys, and single-use plastics that I then turned into trash art.🌊
Each piece I made for the Upcycle Art Challenge tells a story:
The SOJOS - This is a mosaic made entirely of bottle caps that my partner and I saved from our own consumption. This piece highlights that even though we try our hardest to reduce our plastic consumption, something’s you just can’t get away from and that is okay. 🕶️
The Trash Talkin’ Rainbow - This is a rainbow collage of debris I have collected during cleanups. This piece highlights the fact that plastic never really goes away and it ends up in our oceans. 🌈
The Trashy Pen Holder- This is now my Gel pen holder. I made this with an old MUDWTR tin, used toothbrushes and toothbrushes and plastic cutler I found at cleanups. 🖊️
Art has the power to spark change and I hope that my Trash Art inspires others to try a little harder in reducing their plastic consumption.
Stay tuned for my next Trash Art project.
