I have never posted myself on here, so bear with me. I haven’t had the opportunity to fish this tournament in the past and hope to never miss a chance to fish it again in the years to come. This would be the first time a Duffie Boatworks build would be invited to fish the custom shootout, so I leapt at the chance to go and was even more excited to be able to fish the week with my wife Kourtney, who has been my biggest supporter since I said “I’m gonna build a boat in the garage”.

It was a truly amazing experience, from the beauty of the Abacos to the hospitality and friendship of John G and Stephanie and the guys in the crew, and the fantastic fishing we got to experience together. We also snuck in a win with a second place double daily on the last day with 2 blues, a white and 2 sails! Anytime you catch a slam, you know the fishings firing off. I even got to catch a couple fish, so it was a fantastic day.

It was an honor to get to share the stage with the boatbuilders who I count as friends and mentors. It’s a privilege to be counted among them. Being able to listen and learn from them and walk the docks and see their passion reflected in the beauty of what they have created makes me realize that while we are trying hard to build incredible boats, we still have a lot to learn and need to work harder at it and I better get back to it.

Thank you to Duffie Boatworks for again signing on to support the SCBMI as the sponsor of the Blue Marlin Jackpot!!

This year’s Duffie Boatworks Blue Marlin Jackpot is already at $264,000 and is expected to grow as boats continue to sign up.

Having been born into a family of boaters, Jon Duffie grew up on the water in Ocean City, Maryland, during the peak of the charter industry. After years of learning from other sport fishing greats and fishing with his family, Duffie earned his own reputation as a stellar captain. He’s since jumped into the boat building business with Duffie Boatworks.

Today, the company builds elite custom sport fishing boats with stunning lines that raise fish all over the world! Visit their website to learn more about their phenomenal builds and services.

The official release of the Reel Joy (Duffie 79')

A letter from Jon Duffie, President and Owner of Duffie Boatworks:

This build is the manifestation of the owner's lifelong dream. It presented a unique opportunity to show that we are not constrained with one style and design as craftsmen and as a boatbuilding company. The contemporary styling is a departure from our normal lines, but we think you will agree that she is just stunning.
Working hand in hand with the owner and crew through the design process gave us the opportunity to reimagine the look of their current vessel, which was ahead of her time when built. She is modern and timeless. Being built around a schedule that travels extensively and fishes the Atlantic and Pacific Ocean in the same calendar year, she will be prepared for any fishing situation. We are very proud to present to you, the Reel Joy.

Boys Toy (59' Duffie) Update:
The 59' has made significant progress since our last update. Following a successful hull flip, the build out of the engine room began to take place, followed by final paint by our fairing and paint team. Once paint was complete, rigging and installation of dual 10V2000 MTU engines, a 20kW Northern Lights generator and other various mechanical and electrical systems took place in the engine room. The aft and bow fuel tanks, holding around 1,550 gallons of fuel total, were then installed allowing our hull and carpentry team to fit and install the cockpit deck, the bow deck and cabin into place.

Once the bow deck, cockpit deck, and cabin were permanently fit and attached to the hull, the interior team then began to start the build out of the lower interior, gradually making their way up to the interior salon. The 59' will feature an interior layout consisting of 1 master stateroom, 4 bunks up forward, a crew bunk room, 2 heads and a tackle area consisting of 2 freezers and ample storage space. The lower interior and salon build out is now well underway and continues to progress considerably each day.

Our hull crew has also been hard at work installing the hull vents, fish box, salon windows, tow and rub rails and lastly the build out of the mezzanine that is now nearing completion.

The electrical department is currently in the process of putting the finishing touches on the interior and wiring of the main panel, as well as finalizing electrical components throughout the engine room and bridge controls.

With only a few months to go and final preparations in tow, be sure to follow along and check out our website for all the latest progress and updates!

It was a very special day here at the shop.

The Reel Joy (Duffie 79') was pulled from the shop for the final time. Her hard top and tower will now be installed by Bausch Towers. Followed by touch ups to the interior and exterior of the boat, running gear installation and the addition of helm electronics and controls are the last on the check list before she heads to her new home.

As always, we can't thank the guys over at HaulMyBoat.com for all their help and expertise with transport.

Next step, sea trial.
