Most people don’t realize… one of Cape Cod’s most iconic late-night pizza spots actually traces back to the Jersey Shore 👀🍕
Spiritus Pizza in Provincetown (aka “P-town”) didn’t just appear out of nowhere… its roots go straight to Wildwood, New Jersey and the legendary Mack’s Pizza.
Let’s rewind the timeline ⏳👇
📍 1953 – Wildwood, NJ
Mack’s Pizza is born on the boardwalk. Thin crust, simple sauce, no-frills slices… it becomes a Jersey Shore staple and stays in the Mack family for generations.
📍 Late 1960s – Wildwood
A young guy named John “Jingles” Yingling is learning the pizza business.
Where? 👉 At Mack’s.
This is where he learns how to make pies the Jersey Shore way fast, thin, and built for crowds.
📍 1969 – Wildwood → the start of something
Jingles even runs his own pizza truck, proving he knows what he’s doing.
📍 1971 – Provincetown, MA
Jingles visits Cape Cod… and notices something crazy:
There’s no pizza in P-town.

He opens Spiritus Pizza on Commercial Street bringing that Wildwood/Mack’s DNA with him, but making it his own.
📍 1970s–1980s – Spiritus takes off
35-cent slices turn into a full-on institution.
Open late. Cash only. Always packed after the bars.
A whole different scene than the boardwalk but the same energy.
📍 Today
Spiritus is still running, still family-operated, still serving those thin, foldable slices… just like its roots.
