TRAFFIC ALERT: FM 1788 Bridge Demolition on I-20
Motorists should prepare for significant traffic changes on I-20 near FM 1788 as crews conduct bridge demolition work.
When: Friday, September 18 at 7:00 PM through Monday, September 21 at 5:00 AM

What to Expect:
• Temporary closures of both eastbound and westbound I-20 main lanes near FM 1788
• Traffic detoured onto frontage roads in both directions
• Single-lane traffic through the work zone
• Temporary ramp closures
• Delays and reduced speeds

➡️ Eastbound (Odessa to Midland): Left lane closed approaching FM 1788, Main lanes closed between MM 126-128, Traffic will be detoured to the eastbound frontage road and return to I-20 east of FM 1788, Eastbound off-ramp at MM 128 temporarily closed
⬅️ Westbound (Midland to Odessa):Left lane closed approaching FM 1788, Main lanes closed between MM 128-126, Traffic will be detoured to the westbound frontage road and return to I-20 west of FM 1788, Westbound on-ramp at MM 128 and off-ramp at MM 126 temporarily closed

Plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and use caution when traveling through the area. Follow all posted signs and watch for crews working along the roadway.

Congratulations!

Congratulations to Chris Fuentes, who has been appointed chief of Midland County Warrant Services!

Fuentes, who has been serving as interim chief, brings more than 25 years of law enforcement experience to the position. The Midland-raised U.S. Marine began his career with the Midland County Sheriff’s Office in 2000 and went on to serve in patrol, criminal investigations and several leadership positions before joining Warrant Services in 2025.

We congratulate Chief Fuentes and thank him for his continued service to Midland County!

At approximately 11:38 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 2, 2026), Midland Police responded to a crash involving a Ford F-250 and a Honda CBR motorcycle at the intersection of Midkiff Road and Park Lane.
MPD reported a preliminary investigation revealed the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Midkiff behind the F-250 when it collided with the rear of the F-250. The motorcycle was being driven by 39-year-old Javier Mendoza, and 27-year-old Richard Harrell was a passenger, MPD reported. As a result of the collision, Mendoza sustained fatal injuries and was deceased at the scene. Harrell was transported to the Midland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
“Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash,” MPD reported. “The investigation is ongoing.”
