ReaderLink is proud to introduce its sixth distribution center, which is located in Marion, Illinois.
The newest location in Marion marks the Company’s second distribution center in Illinois, in addition to Romeoville.
The facility in Marion is being launched to support Printer’s Row Publishing Group (PRPG). PRPG is a major producer of children’s books, reference books, activity books and reprints of classic literature in fresh, modern formats. The Marion distribution center was established to consolidate PRPG’s inventory under one roof, making it easier to manage, since PRPG inventory is currently spread among our five other distribution centers, as well as several third-party storage sites.
At present, a dozen employees are working on receiving PRPG’s transfer inventory from our other distribution centers. It is expected that Marion will ultimately store over 8 million units of PRPG goods. In the future, Marion employees will also be tasked with processing PRPG returns back to active inventory and building promotional corrugate display builds which require a great deal of space and our newest distribution center is 627,000 square feet, which can easily accommodate this activity.
In early 2022, the Marion distribution center will launch an automated sortation system with the support of The Numina Group. The sorter will reduce the amount of complexity associated with the return to stock process for PRPG returned goods and will be available to process RDS customer returns during peak periods of return activity.
The warehouse in southern Illinois will ultimately employ 100 full-time employees. ReaderLink is working with Man-Tra-Con, which is helping the Marion DC build a quality workforce by assisting with the interview process and helping promote jobs at the warehouse.
The Marion DC is situated closely to interstate highways, which makes for easy transportation access. Prior to ReaderLink occupying the space, Circuit City’s southern Illinois warehouse was located there. Jeffry McReaken has recently been hired as the Director of Operations for the Marion DC. Jeff is familiar with the industry and the Marion building itself, as he formerly served as leader of the prior Circuit City operation. Jeff’s experience as a leader and his diversified background in supply chain and operations management will be an asset to ReaderLink’s newest distribution center.
ReaderLink distributes thousands of books to over 100,000 retail outlets. The six strategically located, state-of-the-art distribution centers span almost 25 acres under-roof and can reach any retail store in America, using standard ground transportation, within two business days.
Our newest distribution center in Illinois will allow ReaderLink to continue to grow its offerings, improve service to customers and provide additional career opportunities to our associates.
