Jalapeño Cheddar Bagels
Ingredients:
- 4 cups bread flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon instant yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1-2 jalapeños, sliced
- 1 tablespoon baking soda (for boiling)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.
- Gradually add warm water, mixing until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Mix in the cheddar cheese and jalapeño slices until evenly distributed.
2. Let it Rise:
- Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
3. Shape the Bagels:
- Divide the dough into 8 equal portions.
- Shape each portion into a ball and use your thumb to poke a hole in the middle, stretching it to form a bagel shape.
4. Boil the Bagels:
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda.
- Boil each bagel for about 1 minute on each side. Remove them from the water and place on a baking sheet.
5. Bake:
- Optionally, sprinkle more cheddar and jalapeños on top before baking.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until golden brown.
6. Cool and Serve:
- Allow bagels to cool on a wire rack.
