Hi y’all! I’m a board member of a fantastic organization called OCASA, the Oklahoma Compost and Sustainability Association. This week is International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) and I’m this year’s ICAW coordinator. We’ve held community events all week long and TOMORROW, Saturday May 10 is our ICAW finale, our 4th Annual COMPOST FESTIVAL, happening at Scissortail Park from 9-1 p.m. This event is completely FREE and family friendly ☺️.

I’d like to invite all of my Oklahomies to the festival which will have yoga, a municipal and community composting panel, an educational Backyard Composting panel (I’ll be one of the breakout group instructors 😊) with an opportunity to win compost supplies, and live music from 2 local artists, Compost Adjacent and Larrissa. We’ll also have several local vendors, including a clothing mending station, a zero waste craft station, and a seed bomb station. There will also be a scavenger hunt with GUARANTEED prizes, like worm bins, t-shirts, seeds, and more!

It’s about that tiiiiiime!! I’m bringing back Compost Fairy classes and we’re kicking off with a Backyard Composting class. This class will hone in on how we can divert food and yard waste to create healthy compost systems in our backyards. You’ll learn the basics, priorities, and a few different systems you can utilize to begin composting. This class is great for beginners, those who may have tried composting to no avail, or anyone who needs a nice refresher to revive their compost.

The class will take place virtually Saturday April 5, from 11:00-12:15 p.m. CST via Google Hangouts.

The cost is $15 which gets you the course, a recording of it, and a copy of my Backyard Composting digital resource guide ($6 value).

I know it’s science, but it all seems so unreal sometimes. I was so happy to see my compost bin was breaking down despite the cold and wind. I’m grateful to nature and the microbes for the magic they do every single day.

Resistance is to oppose. When we compost we are opposing traditional forms of waste disposal and in turn going back to the earth as our guide. We are quite literally composting old patterns, resisting archaic systems, and choosing to honor the essence of nature. What a powerful way to move ✨

Compost Fairy Classes have commenced and we’re starting off with an in-person class in Oklahoma City! I’m so pumped to hang with my Oklahomies and talk all things compost 🙂!

Join me! Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 10 AM at a location TBA!

Backyard Composting will encompass how we can utilize our backyards to create healthy compost systems. We’ll talk basics, the science, importance, various practical methods and techniques, and much more!

Cost is a sliding scale of $5-$20! You pay what you can at the end of the class 🙂. Each participant will receive some BPI certified home compostable liners from Biobag and a copy of my Backyard Composting Digital Resource Guide!
