Flew out of OKC at 5pm on a Tuesday. Two hours later I was watching the sun go down over the Gulf of Mexico with my daughter.
That's the thing nobody tells you about Gulf Shores. It's embarrassingly close, especially since Allegiant just launched a seasonal nonstop from OKC starting at $44 one way and I genuinely cannot explain how hard it will be to not book repeat trips this summer, especially since flying is cheaper than a tank of gas.
This trip was my pre-birthday trip. It was also just... a really good few days with my kid who is somehow an adult now and still willing to travel with me, which I do not take for granted.
๐ Day one looked like this:
Land, check into Embassy Suites right across from the Gulf Shores Public Beach, walk half a block to Lauria's By The Beach for dinner, frozen drinks, and live music.
๐ Day Two looked like this:
Wake up the next morning, have breakfast at the hotel, drive out to Fort Morgan peninsula and do an oyster farm tour at Admiral Shellfish Company, lunch nearby at Village Hideaway at The Beach Club Spa & Resort, enjoy the afternoon soaking up the sun on one of the beaches at Gulf State Park, before checking out and glamping the rest of the trip at Timberline in Orange Beach.
Dinner that second night was at Bolo Steak & Seafood on Canal Road. Chef-driven, locally sourced, the kind of place that makes you feel like you found something.
Alabama's beaches keep surprising me. More to come.
