Here's a video I had the pleasure of working on with the Choctaw Nation Historic Preservation Department. NAGPRA - NO STONE UNTURNED shares the early years of the program and the passion and dedication it takes as a team to preserve Choctaw Culture and history.

HOG BUTCHERING VIDEO

A short video about hog butchering I put together for the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma.

Hog butchering is/was a common tradition of the Seminole, Creek, Choctaws, Chickasaws and Cherokees. Communities, churches and families would get together, socializing, all lending in a hand for the big feast. Families could be fed for many days.

The video was shot in Wetumka, Oklahoma, the hog was donated by FO&G LLC.

Thanks to Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma for having me for their virtual speaker series this month.

Project in development - visited with Pastor Woody Fields today at his church, Wetumka Indian Baptist (est. 1867) to hear some history and traditions of some Creek churches and stories of Paul Marshall, who was a deacon of the church for over 60 years. Here's a short look into our afternoon.

A CHOCTAW WEDDING CEREMONY

Two Choctaw Stickball players, Demetrius and Alisha, gathered with friends, family and teammates on a stickball field in Tuskahoma, Oklahoma (Choctaw Capitol Grounds) for a traditional Chahta Wedding Ceremony.

It began with the courtship, followed by the walk and the chase before the vows were allowed to be given. The ceremony ended with a wedding dance and a friendly stickball game. Congratulations to the happy couple and yakoke for letting me capture your big day!

Current project. Still in development.

I began work on a new project (currently untitled) to tell the short stories of two sisters, Yasmine and Aliyah (Creek/Choctaw). who play stickball for the Choctaw Nation team, Tvshka Homma Ohoyo. They have been actively, for some time now, learning more about their Creek and Choctaw culture as a family and have become young leaders in the community.

The project is still developing and in production but here is a sneak peak into one of the afternoons spent on the stickball field.
