This is how I formed the cup into the 1.5oz sail cloth for my sail tail. There are probably a lot of ways to do it but this is my method and it seemed to work for my purpose. At some point when the wind gets crazy....I may have to use 2 small grommets in the cloth connection to the paper clip.

This is 1.5 oz sail cloth from SailRite. I'm also going to buy some 4oz to try for the heavy days.

This one was about 5 hours later. Wind was 2-5 and completely flipped direction about 2/3 through. I took about 15 shots off card before starting sighters on the card. Was a lot more cautious.

Number 16 and 19 were not xs...but 16 was really close.

Shot this about 10:00 this morning. Was still about 35 degrees. Took 2 sighters and ran the card....then shot the rest of the sighters. The miss on number 3 is shot number 5 from the gun. It was not a wind miss. If I get onto my first card of the day without taking at least 20 shots...I am flirting with a miss. I would say that 90% of my missed shots that are not due to wind mistakes...occur in the first 20 shots of the day out of the gun.

If I was shooting a match I would take 20 shots off the card before I got going. That can be hard to do when they are all landing in the same hole....but I would be taking a chance on a miss, otherwise. This is worse in cold weather, but can happen when it's warm too.

This was about 10 years ago. It's my daughter Olivia at her first outdoor 25m BR match. She's standing in front of my cards to show she beat the old man on card 2. 😀 She had a natural intuition about the wind. I think she was 11 back then. Looks like a 249 14x.

That was fun times. 😀

This was an interesting project. If you zoom in on the back of the barrel you can see I cut an interrupted thread that allowed me to attach the tethered valve onto the barrel with a 60 degree turn. The valve was a pilot type actuated by a very small solenoid that a friend had built. So you fired the shot, then removed the valve from the back of the barrel to load another slug....then reattached.
It was actually pretty fast once you got used to the procedure.

The project was started to see if there was a benefit to having the entire air and strike impulse inline with the barrel.

I spent a lot of time with it....but could not shoot higher scores with it compared to my standard setup.

It was pretty exciting when I would accidentally fire off the valve when it was on the bench. Haha

Being able to make changes to existing slugs on the lathe is a nice way to experiment without making a new die setup. The holder is a slip fit and I just push the slug into it over a piece of teflon tape to protect it and make it snug enough to turn.

This was a slug seater made from reversing a cocking mechanism. Had a lot of force multiplication that was nice at the time. Moved away from that.

We get these dust devils in the summer. They have thrown my flags 30 feet into the air and destroyed my sun shade on several occasions. I almost got one on video picking up one of my flags but I was scrambling to get my phone and thought I was on video but it was just on picture. 😀
