The Griffith's Gnat was named for George Griffith, one of the founders of Trout Unlimited, though it was actually originated by his fishing friend, Bob Summers in Michigan in the 1940s. Imitating midge clusters or adult midges on the water. The fly gained fame with its remarkable effectiveness and its ability to attract finicky trout during midge hatches.
