🐾 Exciting News for Jefferson Parish! 🐾

Jefferson Protection & Animal Welfare Services (JPAWS) is breaking ground on the new Eastbank Adoption Center on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at 10 a.m.

After the loss of the former Eastbank shelter due to Hurricane Ida, this new, state-of-the-art facility will restore critical animal welfare services and provide a welcoming space for adoptions, community clinics, and animal care. Designed with both animals and visitors in mind, the center represents a major milestone for animal welfare in Jefferson Parish.

The 2026 Deep South Agility Trial will be Friday February 20 to Sunday 2/22/2026 at the St. Tammany Parish Fairgrounds- Southeast Livestock Show Barn, N. Columbia St., Covington, Louisiana. Our Trial Chairperson is Susan Kelly, Trial Secretary Rosalind Shoop, & Agility Judge Tim Pinneri. The opening date is Wednesday 12/10/25 & the closing date is Saturday 2/7/26. Please read the impressive story written about Connie as the founder of the LOUISIANA BOXER RESCUE organization & her Boxers. We salute Connie on her wonderful accomplishments in the dog world. 🎉

The show features thousands of dogs from around the the nation & 20 countries competing for the title of AMERICA'S NATIONAL CHAMPION. The top prize is $50,000! 🎉

Last night 12/21/25 members of the Deep South Obedience Training Club visited the SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS LIGHT SHOW in Destrehan, Louisiana with their dogs. Everyone had a great time participating in the events at the Destrehan Plantation! Check out the pictures captured by Gary Clement. ⛄️🐕⛄️

The Destrehan Plantation has a CHRISTMAS WALK on their grounds. Deep South will have a group AKC FIT DOG / FUN WALK at the Plantation on Sunday December 21st. at 5:30 PM. The cost is $10 per person. Dogs can participate with your $10 ticket. Children under 2 are free. The proceeds go to the Therapeutic Riding Academy for special needs children.

You can use this as an AKC FIT DOG WALK or just for a fun walk.

We will meet at 5:30 PM on Sunday December 21. Looks like the weather will cooperate.

Debbie Gissel & her ASCOB Cocker Spaniel LACIE participated in the December AKC Santy Paws Reindog Games FAST CAT & CAT TRIALS held in Bush, Louisiana. Lacie successfully completed 6 CAT & 6 FAST CAT runs. She got a total of 140.25 FAST CAT points. Team Lacie needs 35.22 points for a FAST CAT4 title & 6 more successful runs for her CAT4 title. Congratulations
for a great weekend!

Denise DiLosa participated in the 2025 AKC Agility Invitationals with her dogs Brie & Taz. The December event was held at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Brie pulled off a Q in T2B and Hybrid. Taz got Qs in 3 out of 4 runs and a breed medallion for speed. Taz was so fast that she got a 2nd place award after 2 rounds for a FSS breed and $150. Congratulations to Denise, Taz, & Brie! 🎉🐾⛄️🐾🎄🐾🎉
