Our hearts are broken today. IAFF Local 22 is devastated by the sudden and tragic loss of one of our own members. We mourn the passing of our brother, whose dedication, courage, and service to the people of Philadelphia will never be forgotten. We ask everyone to keep their family, friends, and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Rest in peace, brother.

On 9/11, FDNY firefighter Tim Brown was inside the World Trade Center when the first plane hit. He helped evacuate the towers, survived the South Tower collapse, and lost many of his closest friends that day.

This week, he’s joining Critical Conversations to share his story of courage, survival, and why he fights every day to keep the memory of 9/11 heroes alive.

🎙️ We’re Back! JLN Safety is proud to announce the return of our original livestream and podcast series, Critical Conversations - where the fire service meets safety leadership.

Born out of the need for virtual training during the pandemic, Critical Conversations became a trusted source for real talk on the realities of emergency response, compliance, and wellness. From fireground decision-making to cancer prevention and mental health, we’ve sat down with industry giants like Bobby Halton, Chief John Salka, and the team behind Fire Department Coffee.

This year, we’re relaunching with a renewed mission:
To educate, inspire, and elevate safety culture across the country — one conversation at a time.

Led by our own Nick DeLia - Fire Chief, National Instructor, and Municipal Services Director at JLN - each episode brings together thought leaders from NFPA, OSHA, IAFF, and beyond.

📅 Stay tuned for our upcoming schedule, and be sure to follow JLN Associates to join the conversation!

🚨 It's International Association of Fire Fighters's Su***de Prevention Stand Down Week: Sept 9 - 13, 2024 🚨

Mental health challenges like PTSD, anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts are all too common in the first responder community. In a study of 7,000 firefighters, 65% reported struggling with difficult memories from calls, 59% experienced family or relationship issues, 27% faced substance abuse problems, and 19% admitted to having suicidal thoughts.

In honor of this important week, we’re revisiting a past episode of Critical Conversations where Nick DeLia sat down with FF/EMT, James McLoughlin to talk about mental health and coping strategies for first responders. James shared valuable insights into the importance of addressing mental health head-on in the fire service and ways to foster resilience.
