Jennifer Kane - a laywoman in the Diocese of Buffalo contributing to transparency by providing information and opinion on the clergy s*xual abuse crisis from sources outside the diocesan spin machine. I'm Jennifer Kane, a lay Carmelite (more about me here https://laydob.com/2019/06/06/who-we-are/) who created LayDOB.com as a contribution to transparency in providing information and insightful opin

ion on the clergy s*xual abuse crisis in the Diocese of Buffalo--a source outside the diocesan spin machine. LayDOB.com is offered as a safe place for thoughtful, reasonable, Christian expression on this heartbreaking topic. You’ll want to "Like" and “Follow” to get updates/ notifications. Neither this FACEBOOK PAGE nor LayDOB.com web site is under the auspices of the Diocese of Buffalo. So, we lay faithful Catholics may write in freedom of those constraints. Any discussion of diocesan employees (including the bishop) is solely focused on their professional responsibilities and how they handle them. If we do not have faith in the integrity of diocesan officials in the system, how can we have faith in the system itself? A couple of rules: Keep it charitable and clean, stay on topic, love your neighbor (even when it hurts because you don’t agree with him/her), be respectful (no ad hominem attacks), and conform to the teachings of the Church. If you violate any of those boundaries, you'll get tossed. If the veracity of what you write is questionable, I'll likely toss it. This topic is too heartbreaking for such violations. Pray the Rosary daily, particularly before you hit the “Post Comment” button (which is monitored). Thank you for your concern about this crisis and your interest in trying to stay informed.

After the settlement payment deadline, Mary Pruski with Save Our Buffalo Churches, told us she’s pretty sure that some parishes did make the payments, some are refusing to pay, while others are waiting for re-negotiated amounts.

Reality check: the same Diocese of Buffalo leadership culture that got us into this catastrophe is still in place with many of the officials who turned a blind eye to the abuse STILL in leadership/pastor positions. While we appreciate this legal move to protect money, what are laity doing to hold these enablers of s*xual predators accountable?

The lawsuit argues that the five parishes shouldn't have to pay 80% while the Vatican reviews merger appeals filed by parishioners.

The laity bear responsibility in this crisis as well because they STILL hold NO ONE accountable in diocesan leadership who let these monsters run loose. My book (FREE digital and audio) details laity’s complicity in the crisis by remaining silent…until the Diocese of Buffalo pinches them in the wallet. Where were laity when Siobhan O'Connor and others were outside protesting at diocesan headquarters? Where were laity when a high-ranking official who moved s*xual predators around was given a diocesan award and rectorship of a major church? Where were laity when the whistleblower priest, Ryszard S. Biernat was kicked out of ministry for trying to stop a predator? Many men in charge at DOB who moved predators around or knew it was going on are STILL working among laity. Why aren’t laity outraged and filing lawsuits for their complicity in the abuse crisis? Before flaring up at this injustice laity are feeling, they should take action directed at the true culprits: https://laydob.com/book/

We join Siobhan O'Connor in encouraging parishioners in the Diocese of Buffalo to take this private survey created by laity. Could be useful and valuable. It’s short.

This survey seeks to understand your opinion on several aspects of the $150,000,000 settlement of the Sexual Abuse case against the Diocese of Buffalo. The survey was created by concerned parishioners who want to understand the general feelings regarding the assessment and the leadership of the Dioc...
