Jennifer Kane - a laywoman in the Diocese of Buffalo contributing to transparency by providing information and opinion on the clergy s*xual abuse crisis from sources outside the diocesan spin machine. I'm Jennifer Kane, a lay Carmelite (more about me here https://laydob.com/2019/06/06/who-we-are/) who created LayDOB.com as a contribution to transparency in providing information and insightful opin

ion on the clergy s*xual abuse crisis in the Diocese of Buffalo--a source outside the diocesan spin machine. LayDOB.com is offered as a safe place for thoughtful, reasonable, Christian expression on this heartbreaking topic. You’ll want to "Like" and “Follow” to get updates/ notifications. Neither this FACEBOOK PAGE nor LayDOB.com web site is under the auspices of the Diocese of Buffalo. So, we lay faithful Catholics may write in freedom of those constraints. Any discussion of diocesan employees (including the bishop) is solely focused on their professional responsibilities and how they handle them. If we do not have faith in the integrity of diocesan officials in the system, how can we have faith in the system itself? A couple of rules: Keep it charitable and clean, stay on topic, love your neighbor (even when it hurts because you don’t agree with him/her), be respectful (no ad hominem attacks), and conform to the teachings of the Church. If you violate any of those boundaries, you'll get tossed. If the veracity of what you write is questionable, I'll likely toss it. This topic is too heartbreaking for such violations. Pray the Rosary daily, particularly before you hit the “Post Comment” button (which is monitored). Thank you for your concern about this crisis and your interest in trying to stay informed.

This is all fine, but Bishop Fisher still refuses to hold accountable his officials TODAY who had a hand in hurting these survivors with their complicity in shielding the perpetrators from civil or even ecclesial justice. We have the documents. We have the names of Diocese of Buffalo officials TODAY still in positions of governance and bishop’s advisory groups that aided s*xual predators! I hope survivors tell Fisher the names of the officials that had a hand in this system of operations that decimated lives. I hope they express to his face their appreciation of whistleblower Fr. Ryszard Biernat—still blackballed from ministry. Who are those officials working today? Honestly, this rite should happen in every parish where a priest molested a child because that too is a form of killing.

Bishop Fisher agreed to personally listen to the survivors’ statements and not speak. He could have done this on his own. He has had 5 long years to make that happen. Instead, it was the judge’s invitation that put this together. Shameful management Diocese of Buffalo

Why do laity have to pay when they had nothing to do with the way the diocese handled s*x abuse cases?
Bishop: “It’s all of our responsibility as Church.”
Why haven’t you reinstated whistleblower Fr. Ryszard Biernat to ministry?
Bishop: “That’s a personnel issue.”
Glib deflections to important questions deserve more thoughtful responses, particularly when not one official has been held accountable for his actions in this entire scandal which we laity are forced to pay for. If laity accept these answers, they deserve the consequences of their apathy, do they not?
Charlie Specht’s comments on these questions in a subsequent post: “…[Fr. Ryszard’s] blackballing by 3 Buffalo bishops says more about the institution and its culture than any pretty words coming from a bishop’s P.R. handler ever could. It’s common for organizations to hide behind the “it’s a personnel issue, I can’t comment on it” in the corporate-ized world we live in. But I think you lose the benefit of the doubt on that — and you should lose the ability to hide behind that — when your personnel policies of the not-too-distant past involved protecting pedophiles. Bishops should be forced to explain why they do what they do.”

Where was Diocese of Buffalo compassion for the Polish immigrant, Ryszard Biernat, when he was molested by a diocesan priest? Diocese of Buffalo has sadistically isolated one of its priests for six long years for daring to publicly expose its secret system of operations which protected s*xual predator priests. Those operations relied on the complicity of several diocesan officials still leading us TODAY who have never faced accountability. Some have even received diocesan honors. This is terrifying. If Father Ryszard Biernat has to face accountability for his decisions, these officials should too. Read to find out who they are.
