Update on Boil Water Advisory

Water Main Break and Boil Water Notice
August 18, 2026--Olean—Mayor Amy B. Sherburne, of the City of Olean has announced a boil water notice. The affected area is bounded as follows:
• Starting at Seneca Avenue, North, up to and including Prospect Avenue, as well as Kingston Drive.
• Starting on the East side of Front Street, East, up to and including North Clark Street.
Effective immediately and until further notice, all tap water used for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, and preparing baby formula must be boiled before use. Please follow the instructions below until the boil water notice and press release indicate the advisory has been lifted.
What to do now
• Boil water: Bring water to a rolling boil for at least 1 minute.
• Cool and store: Let boiled water cool naturally and store in clean, covered containers.
• Bottled water: Use commercially bottled water if available for drinking and food preparation.
• Ice and beverages: Do not use ice made from tap water; discard existing ice. Use boiled or bottled water for beverages.
• Food preparation: Use boiled or bottled water for washing fruits and vegetables and for cooking.
• Infants and medically vulnerable people: Use boiled or bottled water for infant formula and for those with weakened immune systems.
• Dishwashing: Use boiled water for rinsing dishes or run them through a dishwasher on a hot sanitize cycle; otherwise wash with soap and boiled water.
• Personal hygiene: Showering and bathing are generally allowed, but avoid swallowing tap water.
