Professors and students have been looking for new ways to make classes interesting this semester, even if that means finding different ways of wearing masks and doing classes outside.

Swift, inclusive action.

Students, please check your email for a series of important messages from Olivet College CARES. There has been an increase in positive COVID cases within the Olivet College campus community. Out of an abundance of caution to protect our community, all classes will move to remote instruction for a 14-day period, beginning Monday, September 28. Halloween is on in Olivet, Saturday, Oct. 31, 6 to 8 p.m.
A recent vote by City Council made it so.

09/15/2020

It's a go.
Tonight, the Olivet City Council approved street closures around the Square to allow for an Olivet College Black Lives Matter rally, Thursday, Sept. 24 from 7-8 p.m. Sponsored by the Black Student Union and Elite fraternity, the event is for the Olivet College community to gather and support the event.
As the Covid-19 pandemic continues, the college is not allowing visitors. This is the current standard for the Burrage Library as well as the Kirk Center dining as well.

The band will be socially distanced and masked in their performance block, even our instruments are masked! We ask that you also mask up and create a socially distanced audience. Bring a chair. Burrage Library Olivet College

News from the library

Burrage Library is open again but only to enrolled college students, faculty and staff of Olivet College. Because of the pandemic, we cannot admit members of the community at this time. Charlotte Community Library on Bostwick Street in Charlotte is public library for this area. Burrage Library has always been totally funded by the college to serve the students. We always enjoyed having the community come in, too, but, because of the pandemic, we need to curb services to simply the students at this time. Hopefully, we will be able to include the community sometime in the future. Thank you.

Another year officially begins at Olivet as Opening Convocation is delivered, virtually.

Today, students enjoyed a special seminar class session dedicated to Opening Convocation. While the semester ahead may look different than in years past, the Olivet College family is strong, resilient and eager to learn. Remember, we are Olivet, and we will get through this together. #OCNation #BeMoreDoGood #GoCOMETS

Want to know if your mail-in ballot was received?
Great story in the Free Press:
Can I check my ballot status online?

"You sure can! The Michigan Secretary of State's Office has a website that allows voters to see whether they are registered, review a sample ballot, verify their polling place and to track absentee ballots.

Go to www.Michigan.gov/vote. On the site, you can search by name or driver's license number to pinpoint information about your ballot."

Some of the trees in Olivet have been around for more than 100 years. Sometimes, they show their age. Tree services were in town July 21, felling a tree at the corner of Yale and Main, one across from the Conservatory, and trimming one on the Kirk Center lawn.

FYI
FYI
The current attack on journalism has invigorated my drive for it all over again. I ultimately got out of journalism because I felt it was all becoming "opinion". But seeing it under attack really makes me want to go out and report the TRUTH. I hope all the current journalism students have the drive that I felt in 2001, which is the same drive I feel right now. Good luck students.
