A FORMER SATANIST'S BIBLICAL WARNING ABOUT HALLOWEEN
Having once served as a leader in the Church of Satan before a radical encounter with Jesus Christ, I feel a grave responsibility to expose the spiritual dangers of Halloween. What many see as harmless fun is, in reality, a celebration that stands in direct opposition to the Kingdom of God.
A History of Death, Not Life
Halloween’s roots are not Christian. It finds its origins in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a night believed to be a time when the veil between the living and the dead was thinnest. This is a celebration rooted in fear of and communion with the dead—a practice the Bible explicitly forbids (Deuteronomy 18:10-12). While the modern world has commercialized it with candy and costumes, the underlying theme remains death. Scripture tells us that Satan “comes only to steal and kill and destroy,” but Christ came to bring life (John 10:10). By celebrating imagery of death, we are aligning with the enemy’s agenda.
The Satanic Significance and Spiritual Currency
Anton LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan, once expressed his delight that Christians allow their children to “celebrate the devil one night of the year.” For those in the occult, Halloween is the highest holy day on their calendar. It is a night marked by increased demonic activity and, tragically, a peak in human blood sacrifices globally. The vulnerable, like the homeless, are often targeted.
This is because blood holds a powerful currency in the spiritual realm. From my own past experiences, I know that sacrifices are used to broker power and make pacts with demonic entities. The purer the life, the higher the currency. This dark truth makes the blood of Jesus Christ the ultimate and highest currency. His sinless sacrifice on the cross covers all sin and breaks every demonic pact (1 John 1:7). As believers, we have authority in His name and through His blood to resist the enemy (Luke 10:19).
Desensitization and Open Doors
Halloween deliberately desensitizes both children and adults to the grotesque and demonic. What seems like an innocent haunted house or a scary costume slowly erodes our spiritual discernment. More critically, when a neighborhood participates in Halloween, it creates a spiritual "hotspot" for demonic activity. By decorating our homes with skeletons, witches, and ghouls, we are, perhaps unknowingly, inviting oppression into our space. The Bible is clear: “You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too” (1 Corinthians 10:21).
In our ministry, we see a direct correlation. Every November, we are flooded with calls from families experiencing sudden spiritual oppression, financial crisis, and relational breakdown—often as a direct aftermath of their involvement in Halloween activities.
A Call to Discernment
Some argue the spirit world isn’t real, but Scripture leaves no room for doubt. There are only two realms: the Kingdom of God and the kingdom of darkness (Colossians 1:13). There is no neutral ground.
As Christians, we are called to honor God by honoring life, not dabbling in celebrations of death. If you are unsure, pray for discernment. God will not lead you to participate in something that glorifies what Christ came to destroy. Let us be a people who renounce the hidden things of darkness and instead, walk as children of light (Ephesians 5:8-11).
