Hurricane Melissa has made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5! 😳

BREAKING -- Hurricane Melissa has made landfall as a Category 5 hurricane. It's the strongest direct hit to the island of Jamaica in 174 years.

Hurricane Melissa has been recorded as one of the strongest hurricanes ever! Max sustained winds of 175 mph with gusts up to 220 mph as of 4 PM Central Time!

In perspective, 175 mph is considered an EF-4 tornado but imagine that tornado being massive and nonstop for over 12 hours and at moments reaching up to EF-5 strength. This is how bad Jamaica will be hit!

Even though it’s NOT expected to impact the U.S directly, it will definitely be historic at the National Hurricane Center.

Pray for everyone in Jamaica. 🇯🇲

FREEZE WARNING: The NWS has upgraded the metro to a Freeze Warning until 9 AM Thursday morning. The First Alert 6 Weather Day continues tonight into Thursday morning!

While many communities will see widespread frost, a few low-lying spots could see lows fall to the upper 20s. Many lows will be in the mid 30s.

Cover up your plants or bring them indoors! Protect & drain above ground water lines. Deep ground water lines will NOT be impacted as underground is too warm!

Talk about a crap ton of rain especially south of the metro! Most of the area saw between 0.5 - 2" while areas south of I-80 saw upwards of 5". A few rainfall reports showed some communities in Gage County receiving over 5" of rain.
