Nash Bellows' most recent collections, titled “Zodiac and Dreamscape,” bring a dreamy and eerie quality to elaborate designs of “storytelling in a blob,” as she calls it. “They’re supposed to be tiny little worlds,” Bellows said, referencing “Horton Hears a Who” as an example—“just a tiny little speck, just an ideal kind of place to exist,” that she tries to emulate. These collages have led to her newest show that will be at Lauritzen Gardens, titled “Lore from the Forest Floor,” which Bellows plans to install in the upcoming weeks.

LaShonna Dorsey understands the value of businesses linking with talent and co-chaired with the University of Nebraska at Omaha’s Internship Advisory Committee.

Dorsey hopes businesses take advantage of the Intern Nebraska Grant program (InternNE), which provides financial assistance after hiring an intern.

“It’s fun getting into this internship space,” Dorsey says. “Nebraska has some great talent. I want to help those candidates find the right jobs.”

Starting on the exterior with a major facelift, then making an entrance with a foyer renovation and an additional half bath, the 1920s Dutch Colonial is coming back to life. The design decisions stay true with the architecture of the home, and feel like an updated version for today’s modern living.

Right off the foyer sits a formal living room. The light that floods the room is nothing short of dreamy. Because of this, the goal was to keep the overall feel light and sophisticated. A design always starts with a furniture floor plan, and with this room, the floor plan was aimed to pull people in to sit.

The Food Bank for the Heartland makes the impossible possible with the help of volunteers, who collectively donated 52,000 hours last year. Ellis Beardall is a longtime volunteer who has contributed more than 200 hours over the past three years.

Beardall believes that no matter how much time you have to give, it should be used with purpose. Even if he can only volunteer for two hours, he shows up ready to make those hours count and do as much good as he can. For him, every moment is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

A local legend, Dean Battiato has had a lifelong career in sales. The UNL graduate sold radio advertising, newspaper subscriptions, and AAA memberships before he began his journey selling roses.

He’s well-loved by the Omaha community—so much, in fact, that he became the subject of a new documentary, aptly called “The RoseMan of Omaha.”

Dave Weiss, owner of D.M. Weiss Productions, describes "The RoseMan of Omaha,” as a passion project, often making films that raise awareness or help people. “I’d always seen Dean out, and it seemed like he was always upset—but I learned that he was stoic. He has layers like an onion,” Weiss said.

For all the stellar dumpling options in Omaha (Hip Bao and New Gold Mountain Restaurant among them), the city was missing something. That changed in the summer of 2024 as Dumpling Empire filled a gap for something locals had long craved, but never quite had—soup dumplings. The popular consensus seems to be that no Omaha restaurant before this had taken on the delicate art of xiao long bao, a feat that requires paper-thin wrappers, piping hot broth, and just the right amount of precision.

It’s fair to say Omaha finally has its go-to soup dumpling destination, and judging by the buzz, it’s here to stay. These dumplings have a way of staying on your mind.

Barry Boyce has been performing as The Barry Boyce Band (TBBB) since 1989, delighting regional and local stages with a high-energy brand of call-and-response polka, providing the soundtrack for countless beer gardens, dance halls, and smaller, more intimate venues like retirement homes and schools. The band has even made a splash on the national polka scene, playing multiple themed cruises in the Caribbean.

“We love taking all sorts of popular tunes and putting them to polka time. We can play the crowd. If people want to sit and visit, we can make that work, or we can certainly play to a crowd that wants to rock, too. We get the adrenaline off the people, off the crowd, we want to play what you want us to play. Most of the time, people come for the beer and the food, we’re just the sideshow,” Boyce said.
