Information is educational not medical advice. https://linktr.ee/MakingLeapsWithLeena On the evening of 4th of July 2025 Leena had a fainting spell. We chalked it up to heat, lack of water, exhaustion anything that made sense given the day. On Saturday the 5th around 5pm Leena passed out again while at a birthday party. We left the party got in the car and from there she continued to pass out mult
iple times within just a few minutes. We immediately went to the ER. They ran blood and did a CT all while Leena continued to faint and began to lose motor function. Regardless of their visual observations they found nothing on tests ultimately sending us home. We left and she continued to pass out consistently numerous times so we went to the next ER where they drew more blood and got us a transfer approval to Wesley in Wichita. Thank you Clara Barton Medical Center ER staff. While at Wesley Leena began to extremely get worse. She began having extreme convulsions, at times unable to walk, talk, hear, or remember. She woke from these episodes a few times unable to even recognize me, causing her to scream out crying for me while at the same time actively trying to remove medical devices and run away. Thankfully this was short lived (For now). After EEG and VEEG among other tests the doctors found nothing structurally wrong. This lead them to her diagnosis the doctors confirmed she was having non epileptic seizures. Functional neurological disorder (FND) refers to a neurological condition caused by changes in how brain networks work, rather than changes in the structure of the brain itself, as seen in many other neurological disorders. Physical symptoms of FND are genuine but cannot be explained by changes in the brain structure. The exact cause of FND is unknown. FND symptoms may include:
Seizure-like episodes (Referred to as non-epileptic seizures, PNES, NEAD, conversion disorder and many more)
Movement problems
Problems with cognitive function
Dizziness
Speech difficulties, such as sudden onset of stuttering or trouble speaking
Problems with vision or hearing
Pain (including chronic migraine)
Extreme slowness and fatigue
Numbness or inability to sense touch
Leena regularly experiences non-epileptic seizures. As well as temporary but reoccurring symptoms such as brain fog, struggles with memory, fatigue, episodes of disassociation, limb weakness, paralysis, amaurosis fugax (loss of sight), Sudden hearing loss, Paraesthesia (loss of sensation in limbs), transient aphasia (loss of speech) and TICS. While these are our most frequent symptoms there so are many more. Through not only our own but through so many others around the world patients affected by FND experience many stigmas, dismissals, gaslighting, disappointments, lack of research, outdated information, chronic pain, and fear. We are here to help break that cycle. Join us on our journey as we search for answers and spread awareness for FND.
