Hit & Run Mobile Music

Hit & Run Mobile Music With a library of nearly a half million songs, professional sound & light system for any event and r She became quite an accomplished dj in the process.

Hit N Run Mobile Music Service was started in 1995 by Bill Ferguson and Chris Miles."Nervous Bill" a radio name handed to him by the staff while working at WKHI radio in Onancock, saw an opportunity to pursue his love of music and earn extra money to support his growing family after the birth of his twin daughters. In a collaboration with longtime friend Chris Miles who had a large music collectio

n, Bill bought used PA gear from his DJ mentor Bill LeCato and the pair started "rehearsals". It didn't take long for things to start rolling, advertising by hand-printed flyers, and word of mouth they booked their first gig , a wedding reception at the Captain's Deck in Nassawaddox. The pair worked as a team for many months, operating out of the back of Bill's pickup truck, carrying the CDs in plastic totes and a handmade "coffin" to house the players and mixer, playing indoor and outdoor parties, dances, carnivals and wedding receptions. Life's demands had Chris relocate to California and Bill was left to scramble to amass a CD collection of his own. Along with this, he incorporated a light show, small at first but it grew, and added a nice effect to the tunes. No computer driven operation, but Nervous Bill working the switches as the tunes pumped out. Not only was the amount of gear Bill hauled growing, but his family as well. His new wife Kim blessed his family with a second set of twins, this time sons in 2003. During the years from '96 to 2010 "Nervous Bill" played over 260 wedding receptions, along with countless other events. From Salisbury to Richmond International Raceway, and in all that time only canceled 1 gig. When traveling to play a Christmas party on Chincoteague several years ago, a tire and wheel was lost off a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction and crashed in the windshield of the van, coming mere inches from striking him and temporarily blinding him with exploding glass. His wife Kim had to threaten to restrain him to keep him from trying to get to the party and fulfill the obligation to the clients. Occasionally, Kim would help out in playing events, or "take the show on the road" herself when Bill could not get time off from his regular job as a professional firefighter. The only thing she couldn't do was back the trailer up in the driveway when coming home after the gig. All throughout these years, one uncompromising fact was a cornerstone of Hit N Run Mobile Music's creed, "when the music counts, count on us". High sound quality always, and attention to detail at wedding receptions are paramount. Meeting with the parties involved and ensuring their special day is indeed "special" and was and is the major objective. Life is a process of growth and change, having two sets of twins, and seeing a new direction that life was taking Bill, he retired from dj-ing in October of 2010. Handing the reigns over to lifelong friend, and fellow music-lover Bryan Daffin. Not wanting to turn the business over to just anybody, Bryan was the only logical choice to ensure the tradition of quality and attention to detail Bill insisted on was carried on. Like Bill, Bryan has the experience, a feel and a love of music and the joy it brings to life that is mandatory in this profession. He also believes: "If you love what you do for a living, you never go to work". Bryan is taking Hit N Run Mobile music into the future now. Incorporating computer technology, a new light show, and a fresh vision for the future, the phrase "when the music counts, count on us" lives on. In 2015, WESR Radio veteran dj Kelley Gaskill joined the family. No stranger to Hit and Run, she had worked with Bill Ferguson doing DJ gigs back in the late 1990’s. In 2022, the torch was passed to Kelley to continue the tradition of great service, great music and great fun for events of all descriptions. When the music counts, count on us.

It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of my friend and brother-in-spirit Bryan Daffin. Among a long list of endeavors he was known for, he was the second owner of Hit and Run Mobile Music, taking over the reins in 2010.

Daff and I became friends during my work at the radio station in the 1990s and our relationship grew over the years. His sense of humor, quick wit and never knowing a stranger were things we shared in common. (But watch out when that mischievous twinkle was in his eye, you never knew what would come next hahah!)

After Big's Place closed in 2014, when Daff was DJ-ing my son and daughter-in-law's wedding, he asked me if I'd be interested in getting back into "the business" again. Without hesitation, I enthusiastically said yes! That began a wonderful run of 11 years for us in Hit and Run Mobile Music.

Bryan would always message me when I was setting up for a gig, ensuring that equipment was working right and all was well. Then, after the event was over, he'd check in most times to make sure everything had gone well and I was safely packing up to head home.

One gig ended in the wee hours of the morning and I decided to not potentially wake him up with an "I'm good and on my way home/ I'm home safely" message. Boy, did I get fussed at the next day LOL In a loving way, of course! His care and concern for my well being - and that of the business- never abated and, along the way, I became Daff's partner in Hit and Run Mobile Music.

In 2015, I returned to WESR full time and Daff and I had more interaction with his involvement with Tasley Volunteer Fire Company. In 2021, he asked if we could meet because he had an idea he wanted to run by me. It was a year into the Covid changes in how we lived and Bryan really wanted to promote family togetherness while organizing a fundraiser for the fire station. He laid out his idea for the first Tasley Volunteer Fire Company Family Fun Raffle (which included the giveaway of a new travel trailer.) I can't tell you how many times Daff mentioned how much he and his family enjoyed camping and he wanted to promote activities that brought families together like his experienced.

Through a lot of work from everyone at the fire station, the fundraiser was a resounding success which culminated with the live broadcast from the radio station giving away prizes every fifteen minutes. The success of that fundraiser was continued in 2022 and 2023.

In 2021, Daff came by the radio station one morning and needed to lay out another opportunity he had: to have the Tasley overpass named in honor of his father Phillip “Caro” Daffin who worked with VDOT on the Eastern Shore from 1940 until his death in 1978. There were a lot of hurdles to jump but Daff was bound and determined to see the project through to fruition to honor his Dad who passed away on the job. Anytime you travel over the Tasley Overpass, look along the side of the highway and you will see the Phillip Daffin Memorial Overpass sign and know how proud Bryan was of that accomplishment.

In 2022, Bryan again asked if we could meet for a conversation. This time it was not a fundraiser or potential gig coming up. It was the advent of health concerns that would bring changes in his life and he asked if I'd be willing to take over Hit and Run Mobile Music and continue the tradition. Again, without hesitation, I said yes.

Just a few weeks ago, when one of the snow storms was approaching, he called me with the offer that if I decided to camp out again at the radio station during a bad snow like I did in 2018, to take full use of the showers and bunk room at the Tasley Vol. Fire Company so I could have some down time and be taken care of. Right up to the end, Daff was always looking out for others’ well being.

Throughout the past 30 years of knowing and loving Daff, he has been a shining example of love, caring for others, helping beyond measure and being willing to do anything for anyone at any time. As we honor his life and legacy, I hope each of us will not only carry his memory with us but- when we see an opportunity- embrace Daff's spirit and love & help others.

Wedding season begins tomorrow! Went to the venue today to finalize details with the bride and groom before the next round of rain moved in. The weather is looking a little iffy for tomorrow also. Am I worried? Pssssh, heck no. I’ve DJ’d a wedding reception in Pocomoke during the tail end of a hurricane for Blair Lusby. This’ll be a piece of cake!

As I’ve taken over the business solely this year, a request for any of my past customers: Please feel free to leave a review! Thanks in advance.

If you have an event coming up this season and you’re looking for DJ services, call or text me at 757-710-0477 to get the ball rolling.
