“My wife and I met, and I was tired of having to drive to Birmingham or Atlanta or wherever to look for records,” Russ said. “I figured if I was thinking that and other people probably were too. We decided to open a store in Opelika.”

— Russ Baggett of

Our story “Analog Connections” tells the story of 10,000 Hz Records and Russ and Hannah Baggett. These two opened the record store on first Avenue in downtown Opelika in the summer of 2018. It was our honor to sit down with Russ and talk about the beginning of their record store, the community, and how they were surviving in the wake of Covid.

“I remember when she was standing there, she looked really angelic in a way. Even though she’s older, she looked very youthful because of the lighting and the drapery ... Her look and her eyes really make the photo stand out. But that’s exactly how I see my grandma in that photograph.”

You can ready stories like “Home” and so many others in our new anthology!

From “Home:”

Our dinner was ready. The table was set. Time stopped.

In the weeks prior, a virus called the Coronavirus spread over the world. Mortality rates were growing by the day. Hospitals were running low on beds and able workers. World leaders ordered all persons to stay within their homes, only to leave for essential jobs and items. All nonessential businesses were closed or nearly closed. All schools, public places and parks were shut down, and all persons were ordered to stay at least six feet apart if in public.

For us, there was nowhere to be.

For us, time stopped.

My wish had come true.

In 2019, only 6 months before the pandemic hit Alabama, we featured photography and an essay by one of our earliest contributors, Ervin Elzie .co. In it he discusses photography, how art can shape our lives, and how art connects us with people in powerful ways.

“I would've never guessed it'd open so many doors within my life, as the core of photography is to engage, study and document human behavior. With that being said, l've met and interacted with a lot of wonderful people throughout my travels. A testimony within itself.”

You can now read this story and many more in our new book! Pre-order your copy now until June 30 via the link in our bio, and share our book with someone you think would love a copy!
