Happy Friday everyone, hope ya'll have a great weekend. I know I'm ready for it. My last 3 days have consisted of a lot work, My house was built in 1978, it's a raised beach house, and not much is "square" in it these days haha. The carpet had seen better days, the entire subfloor was particle board over 1/8" plywood and water damaged. I had been dreading replacing the flooring because I knew what was in store. It took me 3 full days of pulling carpet, removing/replacing rotten subfloor, leveling best I can, and installing LVP, transitions, etc. I'm not completely done but I feel proud of my work and it's so much cleaner and spacious. Now time to find a dining room table. I know this post isn't related to fishing but I feel like a lot of ya'll have gone through the labor of restoring old houses and know the feeling when that last board clicks in.

P.S. I can now say I have shoveled inside my house lol.

95 years... We don't know how many last turkeys one man is supposed to have, but here we are a year later celebrating another birthday and another "last turkey." We thought the book had been written on Mr. Fox's turkey hunting life, but as Mississippi's season closed down, he had one more left. It's been a heck of a year.

Thank you to everyone who's watched The Colonel & the Fox (the legendary Col. Tom Kelly just celebrated his 98th birthday), sent well wishes and prayers our way and shared in this legacy of hunting's greatest generation. Happy birthday, Mr. Fox.

"Bama Saltwater Express Solo Grocery Run" - A super quick limit of nice size Beeliners in the fish box! Practically 10 drops, 10 fish. The current was ripping so I put on a 6 oz Bird Of Prey Fishing Tackle Bank sinker and got it done. I had to run around some storms but got nature's free boat wash on the way home!

Fished a couple of FADS , not much life . Went a little more east to drift a couple of hours for a possible Swordfish and mainly to just get comfortable in my setup and deployment of the leader. No bites, but hand cranking the setup only took 15 minutes in low gear to bring it back up thankfully. Wish the reel crankies would get back in stock for the 70VIS but Can’t catch em if you don’t go ! I definitely think it’s amazing how that mud came from 2000’ deep.

Reef Donkey - Not quite what I had in mind to catch when I said I was going BeeLiner and Scamp fishing! This giant ate my dead squid on a double drop rig on the bottom in 300' (i think it might've eaten a BeeLiner that I had just hooked) I was wore out after that one. Wish it was in season.

I got to see the New Pending Alabama State Record Swordfish in person ! 550.3lbs and dang that thing is huge. Congrats to the “Trade Desk” team on the once in a lifetime catch!

Throwback Thursday: Young Specialist Franklin pond hopping while on lunch break. I put many miles on my truck driving all the tank trails on Ft. Hood scouting for ducks and fishing! Had some great times in central Texas for sure.

Just a reminder… Bridge work will require daytime closure of Intracoastal Waterway, August 11-15

According to a release from the U.S. Coast Guard Sector Mobile Waterways Management Division, the middle span of the Intracoastal Waterway Bridge, between Orange Beach and Gulf Shores, will be put into place during the second week of August, which will require daytime closures of the canal.

Scott Bridge Company is erecting girders across the main channel of the Intracoastal Waterway from 6:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. each day from Monday, August 11th through Friday, August 15th. During these times and dates, vessels and boats will not be allowed to pass through this part of the canal.

Waterborne equipment will be removed outside of the main channel at the end of each working day. During this time, vessels should transit the area at no wake speed and coordinate passing arrangements in advance.
Project vessels and equipment will include the T/V MISS PATSY, a 24 ft work boat, two material barges, and a 70 ft x 195 ft barge mounted ringer crane.
