Karen Bass had something to say about the Santa Ana Mayors approach to homelessness during a recent interview with SBRNLA. After hearing that Santa Ana offers services to homeless individuals and can arrest those who refuse help, Bass pushed back, saying LA’s jails don’t have room and many people inside are already mentally ill. You taking a voluntary breathalyzer at the bar or nah? Costa Mesa accepted more than $92,000 in state grant funding to bring back its “Know Your Limit” program, where participating bars can have police offer customers breathalyzer tests to check their blood alcohol level. Police say the tests are completely voluntary and are meant for education, not enforcement. The same grant will also help fund 40 DUI saturation patrols across the city

Santa Ana police are investigating a shooting that happened Sunday afternoon near Shelton Street and Pine Street after officers pursued a man who was reportedly wanted for being armed. Police say the man abandoned a black Acura, ran into an alley and hid in the bed of a pickup truck. As officers approached, he allegedly tossed a gun and at least one shot was fired. The man was taken to a hospital, but it remains unclear whether the shot came from police or if the weapon discharged when it was thrown. The investigation is ongoing
