A search for a 5-year-old girl who was swept into the ocean at Laguna Beach has been suspended after more than 30 hours of searching. Officials say the girl, her mother, and her brother were walking near the shoreline at Treasure Island Beach Tuesday evening when powerful surf pulled them into the water. Bystanders were able to rescue the mother and brother, while multiple agencies including Laguna Beach Marine Safety, the U.S. Coast Guard, and Orange County Sheriffβs Harbor Patrol searched more than 90 square miles before calling off the operation. The incident comes as dangerous surf, strong rip currents, and waves reaching up to 10 feet have impacted beaches across Southern California.
