🔆My Bible study method🔆
I cannot tell you how many times I’ve changed the way I study my Bible and have failed. And by failed I mean stopped reading consistently, I just read the words without looking deeper, or pretty much used scripture scripture context. All of that happened because I never found a method that works FOR ME.
So here are a few tips I’ve gathered that may help you study your Bible and dig deeper in the word of God
1. Get yourself a good Bible app. Maybe two. I prefer using the app because it allows me to see the words into their original Greek, has commentaries from multiple people to read, and one of my favorite tools of this app is you can cross reference the scripture you’re reading to see the difference places through the bible
2. Highlighters are your best friend. Read the section of scripture you’re wanting to study 3 times. 1st time highlight in one color the first things that jump out at you. 2nd time use a different color and read again looking for words, or context you want to dig deeper into. 3rd time using a new highlighter color highlight key phrases or spiritual truths that you want to remember/memorize.
3. Find a commentary you like. Reading commentaries has helped me understand the history, time period, Jewish customers, the culture of the first church and so much more. I’ve recently been loving Spurgeons commentaries while reading through Psalms.
4. Last tip is to write down what your thinking while reading. I often write questions for myself to go back to later after I’ve prayed through what I’m reading. These questions also fuel my prayers because many times I see where I’m lacking and have to ask God for forgiveness or to give me the disciplines I need to be a better witness. So write it all down, it will show you exactly how the word is effecting you and how the Lord is growing you.
This may seem like a lot but I cannot tell you how much this method has helped me see the Bible as one big story and has completely changed reading my Bible into studying the word of God.
