INERTIA is your biggest business obstacle.
In the past, I thought my biggest threat came from my competition, but now I see that inertia is the real danger. This is why...
Inertia forces you to focus in the wrong places:
No good decision has ever been made from a position of desperation.
When I first started my coaching business, I looked at what other coaches were doing all the time.
I thought they were my biggest threat and spent hours studying their plans.
It was when I looked at my other businesses and how I had built them that I understood what was really going on. I didn't pay attention to competition in my traditional businesses so why should I in this one?
So I dug deep, checked with some peers and mentors and here is what I found:
In the first five years, more than 40% of businesses fail.
The Real Reason Why Lots of Businesses Fail
I found out that outside competition was rarely the cause. It was inside of youâthe apathy that keeps you from taking action.
People don't like change, and it's easier for them to stick with what they know rather than to try something new, even if it would be good for them.
Getting Past Inertia
So, I started to change how I did things. I didn't worry about other coaches; instead, I worked on getting my possible clients to stop being lazy.
I made sure that my texts addressed their problems and, most importantly, showed them how much it was costing them to do nothing.
I told stories that showed how my teaching could change things...
There was no doubt in their minds that taking the first step with me was worth the fight they were feeling.
This new point of view changed everything. I saw more interaction and sales because I was dealing with the real problem, which was the comfort of not doing anything.
In order to help my clients reach their goals, I told them to stop being lazy and do something.
These days, I work hard to get my clients to get over their fears and take that important first step.
This way of doing things has made all the difference. The biggest problem isn't always the competition, but the resistance that people have to change.
This story isn't about me, it's about you.
