Abe is an eight year-old cocker spaniel who is a very sweet and neutral dog, however, he struggles with basic manners, impulse control and knowing what to do when he has big emotions! ( who doesn’t at some point , am I right ? 🤪)

At first glance, this looks pretty cute, right?

Two ol pals hanging out in a crate together.

Most people would say “ awhh” and scroll right past this moment without thinking twice.

But here’s where understanding dog body language matters.

That lip licking and yawning may not be signs that he’s hungry or tired, they can actually be signs of stress, uncertainty, or discomfort.

Dogs are constantly communicating through subtle body language, and these signals are often missed because they’re quiet and easy to overlook.

The goal isn’t to label either dog as “bad” or assume something terrible is happening.

It’s about learning to recognize what our dogs are telling us before stress escalates into bigger reactions.

The more we learn to read these small signals, the better we can advocate for our dogs and help them feel safe and understood.

One thing I’ve realized lately is that I get so focused on training dogs and helping clients that I don’t always stop to capture the moments that mean the most.

Today, Whiskey came back to stay with us for a return Board & Train while her family is out of town getting married. As her mom was leaving, Gio and the kids came back from the bus and within seconds Whiskey was rolling over for belly rubs and soaking up all the attention.

What a difference from her first drop off Where she was very fearful and shy and I had trouble getting her to not focus on her mom leaving.

A few minutes later, her mom sent me this text 😂

But Honestly, moments like this mean everything to me.

My whole family works hard to build trust, confidence, and clear communication with every dog I train, but one of the greatest compliments we can receive is when a dog is genuinely excited to be here. It tells us and their owners they feel safe, loved, and right at home.

Today was Odie and his family's final lesson with me before I move to florida and I couldn't be more proud of their progress!

Over the past couple weeks, we've worked hard on some important real-world skills, including what to do when guests come over, staying in place, and maintaining a down command. Odie has made tremendous improvements in all of these areas.

When we first started, Odie's mom was having a difficult time walking him because of his pulling. Through consistency, practice, and teamwork, Odie has learned the skills to walk politely by her side and enjoy walks on a much looser leash.

The biggest success, though, has been watching Odie's family put in the work and build a stronger relationship with him. Training isn't just about teaching commands, it's about creating clear communication and trust between dogs and their owners.

Congratulations to Odie and his family on all of their hard work! Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to hear about all of Odie's future successes. 🐾❤️
