A traffic signal is in the works at the intersection of Union Valley Parkway and Hummel Drive. Esau Blanco of the County Public Works Department says equipment including poles and arrangements with PG&E should be concluded by the end of the year, "with construction starting early next year."

Orcutt folks will get a taste of how the food they eat is growing by attending the 7th annual Santa Barbara County Farm Day, this Saturday from 10:00am to 3:00pm. The free event consists of over 20 farms, ranches and wineries and agricultural organizations in the county with several farms and nurseries in the Orcutt area including Plantel Nurseries, a world leader in transplant production, Growing Grounds, which offers pesticide free seasonal vegetables, flowers and garden plants and Rancho Laguna, an organic blueberry farm. Mouse Tales Orcutt Preschool Story Time is back at Orcutt Branch Library, and sessions will be on Tuesdays, September 2 through December 16 at 10:30 AM. Story time features stories, puppets, fingerplays, and songs; for preschoolers ages 3 to 5.

OTORA (Old Town Orcutt Revitalization Association) is hosting its Annual Community Picnic at the Newlove Picnic Grounds Saturday, Sept 6. See the flyer for ticketing information.
As part of the entertainment at the event, Orcutt Community Theater will perform a play about the history of Orcutt written by Orcutt resident Dixie Arthur.
