It’s county fair time across much of the country, perfect for celebrating this song written by Mel Tormé and Robert Wells for Walt Disney’s “So Dear To My Heart” (1949). This rare sheet music was published by Burke & Van Heusen a few years after great success with “The Christmas Song” (aka “Chesnuts Roasting…”), also written by Wells and Tormé! Mel Tormé was born 100 years ago this week.

“I’ve got a cake in my hands!” was a memorable line delivered by actress Ruth McDevitt at Camp Inch in Walt Disney’s “The Parent Trap” (1961). She looks less than thrilled to relive the moment, but McDevitt was presented a photo souvenir signed by the film’s cast and crew, including director and writer David Swift and actress Nancy Kulp. McDevitt was born on this date in 1895.
