Nebraska's Junk Jaunt continued success is also fueled by several great professionals who work behind the scenes to keep the Junk Jaunt engine running! Today, we put the Junk Jaunt spotlight on Scott McLaughlin (owner of Heartland Hosting, LLC).
Scott calls Kearney home but is only an e-mail away from our offices in Ord! He is always available to help us with any issues that arise with the website-including making all updates! He does a great job at managing the technical aspects of being able to order your shopper guides online or register as a vendor on the website.
We asked Scott a few questions and here is what he had to say!
How are you associated with Nebraska's Junk Jaunt?
He said.... I was invited to be a part of the 1st Junk Jaunt by Peggy Haskell. We developed the 1st website and have assisted with technology. I have been honored to have been a part of it each year, since the beginning.
In 3 sentences, tell us about yourself....
He said....I started Heartland Hosting in 2001 to help businesses with web technologies. At that time, there were very few web designers and even fewer who understood the importance of the early adoption of this new technology. I was one of only a handful who were able to build professional websites.
Why do you support Nebraska's Junk Jaunt?
He said.... Over the past 22 years, the needs of the Junk Jaunt have changed to accommodate the shifting digital landscape. Today vendors can register online almost up to the date of the event. Shoppers can purchase a digital shopper guide online until the event concludes. With the introduction of the digital download shopper guide, customers can have their copy of the shopper guide on their phone or tablet.
What is your favorite thing about Nebraska's Junk Jaunt?
He said...I love looking every year after the event to see the impact of the event on commerce and tourism in the Junk Jaunt area. It is truly amazing the number of states represented every year by this event. It is common to have visitors from 35-40 states visit the Junk Jaunt.
And finally, some words of advice for the 1st time "junker"...
He said.... Pre-order your printed guide. When you receive it, plan your adventure. Map out your route to get to the communities where you find treasures. Know that it is impossible to see every community in the three-day weekend. Also, book your hotel, campground or Air B&B early. There are limited lodging locations along the routes. You will find all your favorite hotels outside of the Junk Jaunt area and a few of them in some of the bigger communities. Nebraska is very welcoming, and you will enjoy your trip!
We appreciate all that Scott does to support Nebraska's Junk Jaunt!
