The Palestinian Foreign Ministry described the Israeli occupation's decision to withdraw the planning and building powers in the Ibrahimi Mosque from the Hebron municipality as a dangerous escalation, while the Islamic Resistance Movement ( Hamas ) said it was a "dangerous Judaization step" targeting the mosque.

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said in a statement Thursday evening that this step is "a serious violation of the legal and historical status of the sanctuary," stressing that the aim of these measures is "to impose and perpetuate the occupation's control over the Ibrahimi Mosque."

She added that "the occupation is operating outside any legal framework with its Judaization projects in the occupied West Bank, ignoring legitimate Palestinian rights and the international legal positions of the competent authorities."

Earlier, Hamas said in a statement that the occupation's decision represents "a dangerous Judaization step through which the occupation government targets the identity of the mosque and the Arab and Islamic identity of the city of Hebron and the right of our Palestinian people and Muslims to it."

She added that this decision is a "blatant challenge" to UNESCO resolutions that listed the Ibrahimi Mosque and the Old City of Hebron on the list of World Heritage in Danger.
