“We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.” —

As we celebrate , let us remember that the nation King sought to evolve was more divided then, than it is today. Yet no matter the hatred he faced, or the threats he endured, King always maintained his belief in the “redemptive power” of love. Inspired by the teachings of Jesus and Gandhi, King understood that and non-violence were not only moral imperatives—but the only ways to achieve the full promise of .

Therefore, as we celebrate , let us also remember King’s undying, and un-deferred dream: “that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal.’”

It’s not controversial, or even profound. In Jefferson’s own words, it’s simply “self-evident.”

And if Paine were right, that “the cause of America is in great measure the cause of all mankind,” then surely King’s dream, in great measure, ought to be the dream of all Americans. As explained:

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.”

Merry Christmas!

We hope you are all enjoying the season and the family and friends that are near and dear to your heart.
What has been going on in the city since the election?
So many seasonal activities have happened. The city had its annual gingerbread house contest and displayed those houses in the University mall. We hope you all got to see those. The creativity that was on display was incredible!
The Winter market has one more afternoon. If you need some stocking stuffers or some final Christmas Gifts, head over to the City Center park on Saturday Dec 20 at 4 pm. Food trucks and vendors will be there until 8 pm. This is always a great way to support local businesses.
David Young and David Spencer have wrapped up their service for Orem city, and have had their farewell receptions. It was nice to hear some very personal things from them about their dedicated service, and their compliments of each other.

New councilmembers will be sworn in on January 5, 2026 at 6 pm. This will be at the Library Hall.
There have been some orientation meetings going on for them, and they will have the Council retreat the weekend before the first City Council meeting of the year.
This first meeting will be Tuesday, Jan 13, 2026 at 6 pm.

One important reminder, especially at this time of year, we want to remind you of the Gold Star Family Memorial project. The families of those service men and women who have paid the ultimate price are missing their loved ones. This memorial is a reverent reminder, and a very special way to honor them. The city is still in need of further donations, so if you would like to contribute, it is a tax deductible donation through the Orem Community Foundation. (Venmo )

Once more, we at Stand For Orem would like to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful and blessed New Year!

On December 7, 1941, a peaceful Sunday morning on the Hawaiian island of Oahu was shattered by an unprovoked attack by the naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan on the United States Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor and the aircraft and hangars at Kaneohe, Ford Island, Barbers Point, and Hickam Field. The surprise offensive claimed the lives of 2,403 American service members and civilians and propelled our Nation into the Second World War.

Stand For Orem would like to wish everyone a safe and blessed Thanksgiving.

Stand For Orem would like to wish everyone a safe and blessed Thanksgiving.

Stand For Orem would like to congratulate all the candidates of this year's elections for City Council, Mayor and the School Board. This has been such an important election cycle, and we are so grateful to everyone who stepped up and offered to take care of the needs of our city. It takes a lot of courage, effort and support to run a campaign!
The official results will be certified next week, and we are looking forward to those, as some of the races were very close!

We would also like to thank all of the voters who got involved. It looks like we had over 40% turn out, and that is very encouraging to see.

Thank you to all who serve. Happy Veterans Day!
