Every missioanry has felt the sheer busyness of Sunday and helping people come to Church and worship the Savior. Such a great reminder that the missionary needs this same sweet experience as much as those they are helping.
This comes from Elder Bassett’s last message to missionaries before he tragically passed away. His faith and messages of inspiration continue to bless the work.

Elder W. Mark Bassett shared this with the missionaries in the Provo MTC on May 5, 2026. It had a lasting impression on all the missionaries. He would pass away due to a traumatic brain injury on May 11, 2026. Just six days later. He was serving as the Executive Director of the Missionary Department. Our prayers and heart felt sympathies go out to his family. He will be deeply missed.

Happy Thanksgiving to missionaries everywhere! This picture was taken in 1996 in the mountains of Guatemala (Elder Mitchell and Elder Patterson). Can’t ever forget the blessing of being a full-time missionary.

Jesus Christ, prior to His ascension, gave what we call today the Great Commission. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matthew 28:19). That charge, as stated by the Lord, has never been rescinded and is the work of the Apostles today. Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, gave a beautiful and unique title to the full-time missionaries when he called them “the extended arm of the Twelve Apostles.” Missionaries and Apostles both share this sacred responsibility. In fact the word missionary and apostle both mean the same thing; “one sent forth.” Perhaps that is why a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles assigns every missionary to his or her field of labor. Elder D. Todd Christofferson of the Twelve said, “Missionaries are among those select laborers that the Lord of the vineyard has called into His service. He labors with them, and He is very hands-on. They are companions not only of the Apostles but of the Lord Himself, who is the Father’s first and foremost Servant in the vineyard.” To serve a full-time mission is to be in good company and on the Lord’s errand. We pray for and cheer for every missionary called to serve.
