Thousands gathered at UVU’s UCCU Center on Sept. 19 for a Vigil for Unity. A night of grieving, reflection, and healing following the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk.

Campus and religious leaders, students, and community members came together in song, prayer, and candlelight to share a hopeful message: this is a time for shared burdens and collective healing.

UVU President Astrid Tuminez reminded the community that “love can be stronger than fear,” while student leaders called for hope, compassion, and unity moving forward. 💚🕯️

“We got him.” Utah Gov. Spencer Cox confirmed that Tyler Robinson, 22, is in custody after his family helped bring him in.

Robinson allegedly told relatives he disliked Kirk’s views and had become “more political” in recent years. Investigators found bullet casings engraved with messages like “Hey fascist! Catch!”

Robinson is not a UVU student but is from southwest Utah.

Cox says Kirk’s death is “an attack on all of us” and urged people to choose dialogue over division.

Charlie Kirk is coming to UVU, TODAY!

On Sept. 10th, conservative speaker Charlie Kirk will host a “Prove Me Wrong” table debate in the Fountain Courtyard.

His visit has already stirred discussion on campus. From an online petition to planned counter events. In response, UVU reaffirmed its commitment to free speech and institutional neutrality, encouraging open dialogue and respectful debate.
