What Transgender and Non-Binary People Wish You Knew:
Every day, transgender and non-binary people face misunderstanding, discrimination, and opposition—often from those who don’t truly know who we are. We need to change that.
This is not about “winning” an argument or a difference of opinion. It’s about human lives, dignity, and respect.
1. We Are Real. Transgender and Non-Binary Identities Have Existed for Centuries.
Long before modern politics, trans and non-binary people lived openly in cultures around the world.
- [ ] Historical Evidence: Indigenous cultures in North America, like the Two-Spirit tradition, have long recognized gender beyond a binary. The Hijras of South Asia, the Fa’afafine of Samoa, and other identities across history show that gender diversity is not new—it’s human.
- [ ] Scientific Consensus: Every major medical and psychological association, including the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the World Health Organization, recognizes that gender identity is not just about biology—it’s about how a person experiences and understands themselves.
Being transgender or non-binary is not a trend, a phase, or a delusion. It’s a reality confirmed by science, history, and lived experience.
2. Gender-Affirming Care Saves Lives. It’s Not “Experimental” or “Dangerous.”
Opponents often claim that trans healthcare is harmful or unnecessary. The truth?
- [ ] Medical Facts: Studies show that gender-affirming healthcare reduces depression and su***de risk among trans people by up to 73% (The Trevor Project, 2022).
- [ ] Youth Protection: The idea that trans youth are “rushed” into medical procedures is false. Every reputable medical organization follows years-long, careful evaluations before any major intervention. Puberty blockers, for example, are safe, reversible, and have been used since the 1980s to treat precocious puberty.
Trans people do not regret affirming their identity. A study in the medical journal JAMA Surgery (2021) found that regret rates for gender-affirming surgery are less than 1%—far lower than regret rates for procedures like knee replacements.
3. We Just Want to Live—Not Take Anything Away From You.
Trans people are not threats to society. We are not here to invade spaces, erase others, or force anyone to be different. We just want to exist safely:
- [ ] In Public Spaces: The myth that trans people in bathrooms pose a danger is completely unfounded—in fact, studies show trans people are far more likely to be victims of harassment than perpetrators.
- [ ] In Sports: The claim that trans athletes are “destroying fairness” ignores science and individual variation. Sports governing bodies already have regulations to ensure fairness, just as they do with weight classes, age brackets, and hormone testing in other cases.
- [ ] In Schools & Workplaces: Letting people use their chosen names and pronouns is not “erasing” anyone else—it’s about basic respect, like calling someone by their married name or preferred nickname.
Trans and non-binary people are not erasing anyone else’s rights—we are asking for the same rights everyone else already has.
4. The Attacks on Us Are Based on Fear—Not Facts.
- [ ] The surge in anti-trans legislation is fueled by misinformation, not reality. There is no crisis. There is no “agenda.”
- [ ] Over 500 anti-LGBTQ+ bills were introduced in the U.S. in 2023 alone, yet the people proposing these laws rarely consult medical experts, trans people, or actual data (ACLU, 2023).
- [ ] Fearmongering against LGBTQ+ people is an old political tactic—just like when people once fought against in*******al marriage, women’s rights, and same-s*x relationships.
Hate and fear divide us. But knowledge and compassion can unite us.
5. Trans and Non-Binary People Are Thriving—When Given the Chance.
When we are supported, we thrive.
- [ ] Countries with strong trans rights protections, like Canada, Sweden, and Argentina, report higher economic participation, better mental health, and lower su***de rates among trans people.
- [ ] Companies and universities that protect trans individuals see higher workplace satisfaction, retention, and success (Harvard Business Review, 2021).
- [ ] The more people know trans individuals personally, the more likely they are to support equality. The solution isn’t fear—it’s connection.
We don’t want special privileges. We just want the same opportunities to live, love, work, and exist safely—just like anyone else.
6. Neurological Evidence Supporting Transgender Identities
There is true verifiable evidence to support what we say about ourselves is true.
- [ ] Recent neuroimaging studies have provided compelling evidence that the brain structures of transgender individuals often align more closely with their experienced gender rather than their s*x assigned at birth. For instance, a study published in Nature found that transgender individuals exhibit brain-structural alterations that differ from their biological s*x and are more similar to their perceived gender.
- [ ] Another study reported that transgender women (assigned male at birth but identifying as female) have brain structures that are shifted away from their biological s*x towards their gender identity. These findings suggest that being transgender is not a result of mental illness or delusion but is instead associated with innate neurological characteristics.

7. Transgender Inclusion in Biblical Context
The Bible references eu**chs—individuals who, in ancient times, often did not conform to traditional gender norms.
- [ ] In the New Testament, Jesus acknowledges eu**chs in a manner that can be interpreted as inclusive. In Matthew 19:12, He states: “For there are eu**chs who have been so from birth, and there are eu**chs who have been made eu**chs by others, and there are eu**chs who have made themselves eu**chs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven.” This recognition of different types of eu**chs without condemnation suggests an acknowledgment of gender diversity.
- [ ] Furthermore, the story of the Ethiopian eu**ch in Acts 8:26-40 highlights early Christian inclusivity. Philip baptizes the eu**ch without hesitation, indicating that physical differences did not preclude one from being accepted into the Christian faith. Some scholars argue that eu**chs in biblical times occupied a social space that could be seen as analogous to modern understandings of transgender individuals.
These passages suggest that the Bible contains narratives that can be interpreted as supportive of individuals who do not conform to traditional gender norms, emphasizing inclusivity and acceptance.

A Final Thought: What If You’re Wrong?
If you oppose trans rights, ask yourself:
- [ ] What if trans people really are just trying to live their lives?
- [ ] What if gender-affirming care really does save lives?
- [ ] What if you’ve been misled?
Because here’s the truth: If you support trans rights and we’re wrong, nothing bad happens. People are just treated with dignity.
But if you oppose trans rights and you’re wrong? People suffer. People die. Please ask yourself if your opposition is based on facts and evidence or hyperbole.
Wouldn’t you rather error on the side of kindness? Even if you believe we are sinning against God, isn’t the God you serve capable of dealing with us? Where did it ever say fill your heart with hate and cast the first stone?
