The series begins in 𝗡𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗮𝗵 𝟭 with an important reminder: 𝗯𝗲𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗯𝘂𝗶𝗹𝘁, 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝘆𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗳𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁.

🔥 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗟𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲, 𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗿𝘆𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗡𝗼𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲? 🔥

How do you know if you’re with the right person?
Chemistry?
Attraction?
Shared interests?
They make you laugh?
They make you feel wanted?
They go to church?

Those things may matter. But are they enough to build a relationship that lasts?

Sometimes we discover years later that what attracted us to someone wasn’t necessarily what could sustain a relationship with them.

We overlooked character because the chemistry was strong.
We ignored warning signs because we were afraid of being alone.
We confused attention with love.

Or we fell in love with who we believed someone could become instead of paying attention to who they were right now.

This week on the RIOT Podcast, we’re asking: 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗗𝗼 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗞𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗜𝗳 𝗬𝗼𝘂’𝗿𝗲 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻?

And this conversation isn’t only for people who are dating.
It’s for the person who wants a relationship.
The person considering remarriage after divorce.

And the married person wondering: “𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝗜 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻?”

Scripture takes us deeper than simply finding the perfect partner.

It makes us turn the mirror around.

Instead of only asking: “𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲?”

What if we also asked: ““𝗔𝗺 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲?”

Because another person was never meant to become the source of your identity, security, value, or life.

Jesus says: “𝗔𝗯𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝗲… 𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗺𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗱𝗼 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴.” 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝟭𝟱:𝟰–𝟱

When our identity and security come from Jesus, we can begin loving another person without demanding that they become our savior.

The goal isn’t finding a flawless person.

There isn’t one.

The goal is learning to walk closely with Jesus and allowing Him to transform the way we choose, love, forgive, handle conflict, and see the person in front of us.

𝗦𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘀. 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴. 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗱. 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲𝗱. 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽.

There’s something in this conversation for all of us.

Hundreds of years before the birth of Jesus, Micah wrote:

“𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗘𝗽𝗵𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗵… 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝘀𝗿𝗮𝗲𝗹…” 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗵 𝟱:𝟮

Bethlehem gets our attention.

But keep reading.

𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗵 describes a ruler whose greatness will reach “𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗵” and who “𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲.”

So here’s our question for you:

🔥 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗥𝗜𝗢𝗧 𝗣𝗢𝗗𝗖𝗔𝗦𝗧 𝗜𝗦 𝗢𝗨𝗧 𝗧𝗢𝗗𝗔𝗬

Most people know one verse from 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗵 𝟱:
“𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂, 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝗘𝗽𝗵𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗵…” 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗵 𝟱:𝟮

We immediately think Christmas and rightly so. But 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗵 𝟱 is about much more than the birthplace of 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀.

It speaks into judgment, leadership, the coming Messiah, His rule, deliverance, and what 𝗚𝗼𝗱 is doing with His people.

𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗙𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗕𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗚𝗼𝗱?

𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗵 𝟱 asks an uncomfortable question.

God tells His own people:
“𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗰𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀…”
“𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗱𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝘆 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘁𝘀…”
“𝗜 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘄 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱𝘀.”

Why would God remove the very things Israel believed were keeping them safe?

Because those things had begun taking a place in their lives that belonged to God.

We may not trust in horses and chariots today. But we have our own versions.

𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘆.
𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀.
𝗥𝗲𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽𝘀.
𝗣𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀.
𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.
𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵.
𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.
𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆.
𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆.

None of these things are automatically bad.

But any good thing can become dangerous when we begin asking it to give us the identity, security, power, or hope that should ultimately come from God.

And sometimes the thing we’re begging God to preserve may be the very thing He knows we’ve begun trusting instead of Him.

This week, we return to 𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗵 with one of the most important Messianic chapters in the Old Testament.

𝗠𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗵 𝟱 takes us to 𝗕𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗹𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗺, where centuries before Jesus was born, Scripture points toward the coming Shepherd-King.

The King who would become His people’s peace.
The King no empire could control.
The King who would confront false sources of security.
And the King who is coming again.

So maybe the question isn’t simply:
“𝗗𝗼 𝗜 𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀?”

Maybe we need to ask:
“𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗺 𝗜 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲?”

Because Psalm 20:7 reminds us:
“𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘀𝗲𝘀, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗗 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗱.”

Every generation has seen turmoil.

So here’s the question:
𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆?

𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗔𝗥𝗘 𝗪𝗘 𝗟𝗜𝗩𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗗𝗘𝗙𝗘𝗔𝗧𝗘𝗗 𝗪𝗛𝗘𝗡 𝗪𝗘 𝗔𝗟𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗗𝗬 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗘𝗡𝗗𝗦?

The situation you are facing may feel uncertain. The pressure may be real. The circumstances may not look good.

But believers are not called to live as though the outcome is still undecided.

God has already revealed the end of the story.

𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘂𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗻𝘀.
𝗛𝗶𝘀 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗺 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲 𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗱.
𝗛𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗿𝘂𝗹𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗲𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿.
𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆.

That truth should change how we live today.

You do not have to be controlled by anxiety, frustration, or fear. Your current circumstances are only one scene. They are not the ending.
