The Medjai spent thousands of years guarding Hamunaptra to keep Imhotep contained. Despite this, they give O’Connell & the others a 24-hour grace period to leave instead of attacking them on sight, which ultimately gives Evelyn enough time to read the Book of the Dead and resurrect the Mummy Imhotep
