We are pleased to show you the first design in the Scrunchin’ for a Cause collection.
Designed by Mei Scot Higginbotham and Lauryn Young-Fenwick, also known as 2POC, the Women of Color Scrunch It celebrates the beauty and diversity of women of color. $5 from every cap and towel purchased will be donated to the NAACP Education Fund.
On campus, they are Lauryn and Mei, two Media and Communications Majors getting ready to graduate in December. They hang out with friends, stress about school, and wonder how they are going to spice up their dorm-ramen for dinner. On XLR Lander University Radio, however, they are Lauryn Daishanel and Scoti Rocket. Their show, “2POC” is not only a tribute to the artist, Tupac Shakur, who they play before every episode, but an acronym that stands for “2 People of Color.” Both being biracial, these girls have a unique perspective on the Black, Asian, and white experience. Therefore, the show is dedicated to opening and pursuing conversations, awareness, and understanding while continuing to explore their own identities as women of color in America.
Mei Scot Higginbotham is a 22 year old Media and Communications Major at Lander University and the Program Director of XLR Lander Radio who has been focusing her senior year on her love for writing and design. As a First Generation Filipina-American, she spent much of her childhood confused and often ashamed of her culture and physical features for not fitting “Traditional American Standards.” However, as years have progressed, she has built a strong, loving relationship with her heritage and is excited to share it with others.
Lauryn Young-Fenwick is a 23 year old Media and Communications Major at Lander University with a passion for directing and managing new projects. Lauryn is still unsure of how to define herself when it comes to her racial identity. With a biracial mother and a black father, she never really knew if she was "mixed" or "just black." She was raised around her cousins and close family members in a very diverse setting. Since starting college, she's found a thirst for Black History and embracing her culture and she often finds new facts and stories that she's willing to share.
