One of the most popular questions I receive is “How much does it cost to transfer my Tapes?” There are several factors involved such as the number of tapes, how long each tape is, are you transferring to DVD or to a Digital Format, and any add on services such as custom editing. Whether you have VHS Tapes, VHS-C Tapes, Camcorder tapes such as Hi8 and Digital 8, MiniDV Tapes and/or Betamax Tapes, the rates to transfer are the same. If any of your Videotapes that are going to be transferred is damaged, and/or broken, I will splice it at no additional charge.
Over the years I have found charging my customers by the video hour is the most cost effective. Although I have a minimum charge of $29.95, that includes the first two hour of video, each additional hour is $14.98 per hour. For example:
Tape 1 = 15 minutes of video.
Tape 2 = 45 minutes of video.
Tape 3 = 25 minutes of video.
Tape 4 = 35 minutes of video.
Totaling 120 minutes of video, all four Tapes would be transferred for the minimum cost of $29.95, plus applicable sales tax. I avoid transferring and charging for two hours of Videotape that only contains 15 minutes of video, as it would be wasteful of both resources and customers money. Instead, I only transfer and charge for the 15 minutes of video.
In addition, if you have any lengthy static shots, I remove them prior to the transfer to DVD and/or Digital file, which saves the customer money. Examples of this are extended blank screens, typically a blue screen, or when the camera was left recording while sitting on your car seat, or sitting on a kitchen counter. These static scenes take up space on the videotape, and are a waste of resources and customers money.
