During the 1993 Great Flood in the Midwest, Missouri man James Robert Scott was accused of damaging a levee near West Quincy along the Mississippi River. The breach flooded about 14,000 acres of farmland and caused major damage.

Prosecutors claimed he did it on purpose to stop his wife from crossing the river so he could keep partying. Scott was convicted under Missouri’s “causing a catastrophe” law and sentenced to life in prison, with a chance for parole.

He has always denied the charges, and the case remains controversial, with some questioning whether the levee failure was actually caused by him or by the severe flooding.

The Supreme Court called it unconstitutional. Florida called it justice. Now one case decides everything.

Florida prosecutors have filed the first death penalty case under the state's new child sexual battery law. The case involves Nathan Holmberg, a Hernando County man accused of filming the r**e of five children under the age of 12. Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the charges in November 2025, calling it an opportunity to challenge the Supreme Court's 2008 ruling in Kennedy v. Louisiana.

That ruling held in a 5 to 4 decision that executing someone for child r**e violates the Eighth Amendment. Florida's legislature passed its law in 2023 with bipartisan support, explicitly stating that Kennedy was "wrongly decided." Governor Ron DeSantis signed it and said he was prepared to take the fight to the Supreme Court.

If the case reaches the high court, it could redefine the constitutional limits of capital punishment in the United States.

On November 21, 2010, U.S. Marine William “Kyle” Carpenter was serving in Helmand Province, Afghanistan. While he and fellow Marine Nick Eufrazio were providing rooftop security during a Taliban attack, an enemy gr***de landed near their position. Carpenter moved toward the explosive and took the brunt of the blast, helping shield his fellow Marine from the explosion.

The blast caused devastating injuries. Carpenter suffered severe damage to his face and arm, lost his right eye, shattered his jaw, and lost many of his teeth. Though critically wounded, he survived after emergency treatment and years of medical care. Over time, he underwent dozens of surgeries and a long rehabilitation process to rebuild his health and regain normal functions.

In recognition of his extraordinary bravery and selfless act to protect another Marine, Carpenter was awarded the Medal of Honor on June 19, 2014, by President Barack Obama. At the time, he became the youngest living recipient of the nation’s highest military award.

His story is often remembered as a powerful example of courage, sacrifice, and the deep bond shared between service members.

Some say she needs protection. Others say transparency could have avoided the backlash.

U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi has reportedly moved from her Washington apartment to secure military housing after threats linked to drug cartels and growing anger over the handling of Jeffrey Epstein case files.

The move comes as lawmakers push for answers about the Epstein records, with a congressional committee voting to subpoena Bondi over the issue.

Do you think public officials should receive this level of protection? 🤔

How does someone who publicly claims to protect young people end up convicted of abusing one?

Stephen Ireland, 42, a co-founder of Pride in Surrey, was sentenced in June 2025 to 24 years in prison with an additional six years on extended licence after being convicted of s*xually abusing a 12-year-old boy he met online in 2024.

The court heard the child, who had been reported missing, was taken to Ireland’s apartment where drugs were allegedly provided and explicit material shown.

Ireland’s flatmate, David Sutton, 27, a volunteer with the same organization, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for related offenses.

During sentencing, the judge said Ireland abused his position and knowledge of youth safeguarding while exploiting vulnerable young people. Reports also indicated that earlier concerns raised by whistleblowers were not acted upon.

Spain just pulled its ambassador from Israel.

Spain has officially withdrawn its ambassador after months of diplomatic tensions between the two countries. The decision follows escalating political disputes and criticism of Israel’s actions in the region.

The move leaves both countries without full ambassadors, marking a significant shift in their diplomatic relationship.

Is this the start of a bigger shift in Europe? 🤔

Eminem's mom sued him for $10 million over a lyric.

She won the case and received $25,000, but her lawyer took most of the money, so she received only $1,645.

Fair outcome or not?
