Reliable connections help us learn more about ourselves and develop a more secure sense of self and identity. If you have been in turbulent or unpredictable relationships throughout your life, it makes sense that you also struggle with who you are.

The good news is that we are constantly building and constructing who we are so finding secure and balanced relationships can help you. You can heal ❤️

I had a few conversations with friends this week and they were asking why they kept feeling so anxious and stressed despite all the work they have been putting in. When we got to it we figured out they
1. Didn’t have enough time to rest
2. Felt work was always piling up
3. Weren’t able to spend quality uninterrupted time with family
4. Couldn’t remember the last time they truly took a break
5. Some had babies and their husbands had to for back to work without a break at all and they only got 6 weeks with their new born
6. The increased expenses of basic living
7. The constant world tragedies and lack of stability

I mean i could go on and on but these are just a few things. My question is how can you expect NOT to feel stressed and anxious?

When are we going to start changing the conversation around emoting? When did being emotionless become a flex?

We are all human and we all experience suffering and we are all built to cry. If you can’t cry it’s probably been conditioned out of you and it’s not healthier. When we release fears we release stress hormones from our bodies which actually helps regulate our nervous system.

Therapists crying is healthy! We are not robots, and we love it when our clients feel safe enough to cry in front of us. We see that as a success in many ways.

I will continue to cry and continue to normalize crying even if anyone wishes I lose business over it

Such a common struggle and difficult to know how to respond. If you’re worried about back lash then I would question the kind of friends you have. It might mean you need to set some boundaries or have a concession about your values and your needs. I would also check in with yourself to see if you are possibly canceling a lot and need support to help you improve your mental health since it can be directly related. Have you been through this?

Take a second to reflect on what exactly you’re in love with.
Are they treating you the way you want to be treated?
Are they consistent?
Are they open and vulnerable with you?
Do they respect your time, your needs, and boundaries?
Do they communicate with you openly and honestly?
Do they keep their promises?
Are they committed to you?
Are they behaving in ways that slowly make you more secure about the relationship?

If you answered a lot of “no” you might be in love with the fantasy of who they are and what you wish the relationship was.

If you had one or two “no” but the rest are yes, then it’s time to have a conversation and see where that leads
