In this episode, we talk about something some people might find a little scary…being self-employed and trying to buy a home. But with the right team by your side, it doesn’t have to be!

We interviewed past client, Wendi Stark, who is self-employed and successfully purchased a home with us in 2023. This experience was not without some planning and setbacks along the way, but Wendi picked the right team and we guided her through tax filings, IRS payments, "murder sheds" and so much more!

Vicki and Wendi discuss how they worked together to make sure Wendi's taxes showed correct and sufficient income and that she had her ducks in a row before she shopped. While Beth and Wendi share the details about shopping for a fixer upper in this market, and how important it is to get property information ahead of time so you know the age of the major systems, and are aware of any potential pitfalls before you make an offer. Follow along from pre-approval to closing with lots of tips along the way!

Sometimes when you are showing homes, you stumble across some crazy things! There could be a scary shed in the yard that looks like something out of a horror movie, or maybe it’s the scariest electrical box that you have ever seen.

In our next episode, we talk about something else that can also be scary: being self employed and trying to buy a home… but it doesn’t have to be! If you have the right team by your side guiding you through your home buying journey, you can absolutely make it to closing!

We also talk about how my team and I make sure to get all the info on the home ahead of time, relating to the age and condition of the roof, plumbing, HVAC, electrical and water heater, so we are aware of any pitfalls, know what to look for while we are there, and can find solutions!
