Bamboo Shack Bag Fail!
Today’s Bongie of the Day goes out to Bamboo Shack! Listen — giving back to the community is always a good thing, and nobody can knock a business for stepping up to help during back-to-school season. But the way Bamboo Shack went about it had plenty parents and social media in an uproar.
At their event, the franchise gave out school bags that had a huge Bamboo Shack logo printed across the entire front. Now instead of parents being grateful, plenty of them said they feel like they can’t even send their kids to school with those bags, because children can be cruel. One little joke turn into a whole day of teasing, and you already know the line the kids would throw out on the playground: “Carry ya broke self with ya cheap Bamboo Shack bag!”
Social media personality Cindy Patrice was one of the first to call it out, saying the move looked less like a genuine giveaway to help struggling families and more like a slick marketing opportunity. She argued that if Bamboo Shack truly wanted to help the needy, they could’ve provided plain, simple bags instead of turning the children into free walking marketing billboards. Her comments and many others struck a nerve, because plenty Bahamians jumped in to agree — calling the stunt tacky, tone-deaf, and embarrassing.
Instead of focusing on the good gesture, the whole conversation online turned into jokes and criticism about how “cheap” the bags looked, and how Bamboo Shack should’ve known better. What was meant to be a positive moment ended up feeling like a publicity stunt.
Bamboo Shack, the heart might have been in the right place, but the ex*****on? Pure Bongie.
